Hey Julie! I had some chicks with pasty butt and one with sour crop until I started putting Bragg's apple cider vinegar in their water. That seemed to clear it up. At first they didn't like it, so I had to gradually increase the amount I used.I'm hatching with you guys too. I threw some eggs in the night before last.I think my frizzle started laying, so I HAVE to test fertility ya know, lol. Even though I have some that just hatched and some going for the Easter hatch too. I lost one of my new babies last night. They are almost a week old.
I've been grinding up their feed, I have their heat lamp set slightly lower than I would for bigger babies, but if I raise it any they pile under it so I'm, pretty sure that's where it needs to be. I'm picking up medicated feed just in case it's cocci or something, although I've never had cocci in my birds so I doubt that's it. Just want to cover all bases. I did have sav a chick in their water the first few days. Should I mix up some more and keep them on that? I was thinking maybe since they are such teeny babies they just need that extra boost, maybe they suffer from hypoglycemia like teeny chihuahua's or something? I know sometimes chicks just don't make it, but if there's any ideas to keep it from happening again are appreciated. I'm pretty new with these teeny little guys still.![]()
