American serama thread!

Froggeisheins.
Thanks,at this point I'm going with the stroke idea. She was weak and uncoordinated on the left side. You mentioned SSD. Can you explain further. Is it common for them to pass away so early?

I'm actually curious about breeding an actual silkie chicken - not a silkied serama - to a smooth feathered serama. My serama roo has fertilized the eggs of all my girls and my silkie chicken started laying and her eggs are all fertile so I tossed a couple in the bator.

I guess as a breeder and judge of serama, I have to ask, "Why would you want to do this?" If your idea is to have an interesting, cute and fuzzy chicken, okay. But if the goal is have something to use to breed or show, forget it. If you are wanting to create a silkied serama, won't happen.

I'm not a breeder or a shower, it's just for fun =)
I just wondered if anyone had ever crossed these and what came out of it. I originally put the silkies eggs in there for counterbalance, but then they started to develop! I haven't ever seen Toy mate with the silkie so I wasn't expecting fertile eggs. But Toy is the only rooster so they have to be his babies! I don't really like the silkied serama so I was wondering what to expect from the little mutts. If they came out silkied I'd just be rehoming them, if not, I may be keeping them to see what comes of them.

never have I seen this cross so it IS gonna be a crapshoot.....IF you do not like silkied seramas, and there is a 50/50 chance of them possibly being that...why do it???? Just my thoughts is all....

I think they didn't realize that they were fertile and then they started growing and they probably didn't want to kill them.

Try asking on Chicken "mutt" club!!! thread. I've found several serama x ??? pics on there.
Thanks! There are so many threads on here, it's great when someone can direct you to a relevant one

I have a handful of friends who like the silkied variety, and they all love the seramas, they usually get any silkied serama that I hatch from ordered eggs. But even if it does come out silkied I like having related chickens haha. It's fun to see what their offspring look like. And you never know, I may really like one. A lot of my favorite animals are ones I never wanted in the first place LOL

This is also partly true. They were in there for balance, I didn't think they were fertile, but if I truly didn't want them I would have taken them out. Instead I'm curious to see what the little mutts look like! Chickens are such a fun experiment in genetics! Esp serama with their easter egg colors. I also though maybe they would end up being "silkied serama" which a lot of my friends really want but I don't own any so I can't give them eggs to hatch. But you guys have said that that won't really be the result. Regardless, they will be fun little bantys to play with!

I have Silkies and Seramas as well. I am interested to see how your babies turn out. I only have Silkie hens, so if any of their eggs are fertile the options are either a Serama roo or our Appenzeller. Should be interesting if we decide to hatch!

I've been checking out lots of pictures of silkie crosses, so now I'm guessing it will result in something between their sizes with smooth feathers and a feather pouf on their head (I'm sure there's a real name for that feather pouf I'm just not sure what it is lol)
I'm excited to see what happens! And if the babies grow up to be SUPER BROODIES haha.

Toy Boy the roo and Snowball the momma
