Will they still need a heat lamp or should momma take care of that?

If you have another pair in the cage with the hen that has hatched out babies, I would NOT recommend leaving them all together. Separate the mom with the babies and put them into another cage.

Keeping them on shavings and away from any and all wire will help tremendously. Wire is the #1 feather killer. For 4H, feathers do need to be in tip top shape. I cover wire with plastic sheeting, keep my birds on shavings, and they have plenty of room to move around without feathers touching anything. Also, I keep my show birds alone, not in pairs, so feathers aren't ruined with mating.

Thanks! I was hoping that our kennel was big enough to keep them from getting messed up, but i see your point. We are working on building a wooden enclosure for them, and getting them some conditioning food to (hopefully) encourage good feathering. After looking through the pics on your website, i am almost embarrassed to post these updated ones of our pair, but... here goes:











We purchased these as "breeder quality" i was not ready to invest in a show bird right out of the gate. I realize the Roo's tail should be closer to his body (more vertical), his daddy had a perfect tail, was hoping that gene would transfer to his offspring. Our favorite pair had already sold, that is what i get for hesitating, lol. Again, any feedback would be welcome

I am sorry to tell you that he is not a serama. Maybe there is alittle serama blood in him but with the wide wattles, and the unusual comb, the very large white ear lobes, very long legs and an OEGB looking tail, he is a mix of some kind. BUT he is still pretty to look at. Hope he has a nice personality to go with his looks! ENJOY him

I got this tiny little guy today and was told he is Serama. Is this true? I'm not framiliar with the breed but love this lil guy for sure!

I am very new to Seramas, but I love them, and enjoy learning about them.
I have a 6 mth old cockerel and 3 - 1.5 wk old chicks.
Hopefully by the end of the summer I will also have a nice pair or trio from a local show breeder.

Hi Peeps, Here is one of my roos that is show quality. He unfortunetely has a neurological problem that makes him wobble and lose his balance so his feathers get rumpled ALOT. He just lives his life looking pretty! I love Gumbi
