if i bred the hen with the long back to either of the white ones (or the black and white one im getting from OCseramas) would the offspring have shorter backs?

I would think the results would be 50/50 then cull (sell give away) the offspring that have long backs and breed the short back pullets that you kept to the other roo. then you should have 25% long backs. I am sure you could breed it out of them might take a few generations to do so though. The only offset would be if one of the roos had then trait as recessive then it might take longer to diminish it in your flock.

i may do that, im really excited to get them. since they dont breed true to color what colors are they likely to produce?

I would say mostly lighter although the dark hen will probably have mostly dark offspring. certain colors are more dominate than others black is a really dominate color type.

Nikki the only one that has bugs is the white male that has flakes of color. All the others are clean they are from a different guy that I met. Only the 8 I picked up had mites/lice whatever they were. Long backs are genetic. So you just breed it out after each consecutive generation. The 8 are already starting to color up in their combs and feel better. They were awfully skinny and a couple have been laying soft eggs. I'm nursing the poor things. I think they are feeling better though.

By the way Nikki they can and do breed true to color but you gotta work at it

well. I was picking up those birds had to get home by dark. The as I was driving away from winchester. I noticed one had a bald butt. I thought that doesn't look right. Lol lesson learned.
