Agreed, that looks like a girl. A very cute little barred hen at that! Does she crow? Hens sometimes crow.

I had five hens and 2 roos and out of 100 eggs I had about 15 hatch. I had them in my incubator with several other eggs. I also don't get broodies very often but I did set a clutch under one and got 1 egg out of 5 to hatch. Am I doing something wrong with the incubation processes?

I am going to a poultry swap this weekend and will be willing to buy some Black mottled, Blue mottled or solid, Lavender mottled or solid, and Koi streaming serama. Its supposed to be red white and black mottled almost like a Millie Fluer patterning.

Are your eggs shipped? What kind of incubator? What were you doing for humidity, and what size were the eggs? Shipped eggs are extra hard to pinpoint with serama. I've had complete washout hatches where I got nothing, and I've had 100% hatches too. If these aren't shipped eggs, I'd be looking at the hens that produced them and the roosters too. Consider their diet, how many were clear as opposed to how many are quitters, make sure its not inbreeding depression, etc. There's the usual suspects like calibrating your incubator if you've found nothing amiss with the breeding stock.

What I've found especially important in my hatches is to only set eggs of similar size, and to start the hatch dry, then go by egg weight for setting my humidity. Eggs of different sizes are going to need different rates of humidity, and serama egg sizes vary a ton. They are very easy to drown too, especially when trying to hatch multiple sizes. For that reason, maybe doing smaller hatches would benefit for future tries. I've only been hatching serama eggs since January though, so I'd take that with a grain of salt. I'm far from an expert and only hatch in batches of 12 at a time.
 
About three weeks ago she started crowing and continued crowing until a week ago when she mysteriously stopped, about the time she was getting ready to lay an egg, I suppose. It's very strange!
 
I got rid of my original serama flock and I am rebuilding. I got a spangled serama rooster right now and I am also supposed to pick up some seramas from a couple of friends and one of them is offering me some Malaysian Serama hatching eggs valued at 100-500$. I have seen her flock and they are true Malaysian seramas. Everyone's advise is appreciated.

I am also looking for other breeders in Washington or Oregon. I am always looking to buy or trade for some A or B class seramas preferably spangled or mottled with small backs and short tail feathers.

I just acquired some Ayam seramas (new style) and currently rebuilding too. I'm selling off all my traditional seramas A, B and C. Located in SoCal but can ship.

Pm me if interested...all my birds came from reputable breeders.
