American serama thread!

Lol!
Well actually I ran out of temp cages today, got some new ones and had to out her in the serama coop today with my others. Luckily days are going to be in the low 70's and nights in the low to mid 50's and they still have an optional heat lamp if they want it so I think she will be fine (staying warm wise). And I pulled my little serama rooster and had him in with her all day so they got to buddy up and then put them both in the coop after dark when everyone was roosting so hopefully he will protect her tomorrow when they all wake up. That being said I am going to wait a few days and start collecting her eggs and try to hatch a few myself!!!!

Do you know if she were with a rooster before you bought her?

Finally got some decent pics of Spaz! He won't hold still! He kept trying to squeeze back into the brooder

Ummm yes. Silly me I didn't even think about that. She was in a pen with 3 roosters

No, not yet.  Her first four hatched Friday/Saturday. I assume that I will be able to tell as soon as their feathers start coming in.  Five more of her eggs hatch next Saturday.  My Frizzy is the bottom of the pecking order; even beneath the half grown birds.  While they usually leave her alone when she is brooding, I wasn't willing to take the chance of her being forced off the nest and loosing the chicks, so I fostered her eggs to dominant hens and gave Frizzy dummy eggs to brood. When the eggs begin to hatch I'm giving them back to Frizzy to raise.  Frizzy and family will be spending at least a week on the dining room table until the chicks are able to avoid aggression.

I hope a frizzle hatches!

Woot! Can you already tell the back this early? He does stand really straight!

Yes, I believe you can tell if the chick has potential. Of course there is no way to know what his back will look like when mature, but I think Spaz has a good chance of being really good.

If you look at pictures of other chicks his age you'll see what I mean.
