My Serama hen is currently sitting on 9 eggs

She went into laying overload and laid an egg pretty much every day for 10 days. Her previous hatch was just 3 eggs (all roosters of course) so it'll be interesting to see if all 9 make it to the end.
To the people who let their seramas brood their own chicks, how often will they generally go broody? She just hatched her last clutch 2 months ago. I'm afraid of her wearing herself out by constantly going broody, raising chicks and then starting all over again!

This applies of all my hens, serama or otherwise, 8-12 eggs are laid in a nest and broodiness starts. My serama hatch in 19 days. When the chicks are about 3 weeks old the hen starts to lay the next clutch. After 8-12 eggs are laid the whole cycle starts again. At present I have one serama that started to brood with just two eggs in her nest. Another is brooding eggs while still caring for her previous brood. Broods are small, but frequent. Serama are unlike any other breed I have raised over the last 40 years. After a year of this my hens are in good condition and show no sign of stopping.

From what I see, the only way to stop reproduction is to keep the nests empty of eggs; and that's not so easy. Three days ago I found a nest of eggs in a gap in the wall. The opening was less than six inches wide between a closed nest box and the cupboard/wall.

My advice is to monitor the hen's health and take steps when necessary.

I tried hatching serama eggs twice. First nothing hatched....second one hatch bull was culled because it couldnt walk....this time i let them sit on there own eggs i have 2 broodie seramas and out of 20 eggs...4 hatched so far! That i could see!! They really do better under broodies then in a bator.

For those that have tribbles, at what age can they be sexed? One of my hens has two tribbles and three chicks of my own stock. Three weeks old and my stock already show their sex; two pullets and one cockerel. There may be a later bloomer, but ... We'll see. At this point both tribbles look to be pullets. Three weeks is too young to be sure.
