American serama thread!

I have 7 shipped Serama eggs in lockdown. Today is day 20! One is questionable so I'll be happy if 6 hatch. Last time a couple died in the shell at the end, so I did some research this time and found the suggestion to lower temp at lock down to 98-98.2F so I'm trying that! Hoping it works and they all hatch!

Wishing you the best of luck and for a good hatch rate!

Does anyone else have incredibly LOUD seramas? My Serama hen seems to love the sound of her voice and squaks all bloody day long. It is a version of the egg song which gets progressively louder as it goes on, sometimes breaking into "there's a predator near by" squaking that then sets off the rooster who starts barking as well.
She does this whether she is laying that day or not. I'm considering letting her brood on fake eggs just to get some peace! Ha!
Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

YAY! I'm still interested if he has perfected the incubation of the Tribs. I'm still waiting to try again for mine!

I've seen your friend post on Facebook recently. I believe it was in the Serama Show & Tell group with pics of a couple of his tribbles. So, further signs.

Mine do that on and off throughout the day. The hens will get the roosters going. Or someone hears/sees something remotely suspicious and they all start up for a good while. When I had my first 6 birds, I worried awhile that I wasn't providing something they needed or they were really bored or something. But I think it's pretty normal. It's possible the ones on the ground outside don't initiate it as much/often as the ones I have in cages in the coop (we have one run so they have to take turns). But they do get triggered when the coop birds start.

My solution is locate them a decent distance away from your house. Carry earplugs when you visit them. When they're just nervous about a strange sound, distract them with a treat.

Hi - I'm new to all of this - and I love my babies like they are family already. I have two approx 8 week bantam seramas. I thought I have a pullet and cockerel but I'm starting to wonder if I have two cockerels. Pics are below of Tiffany and Oreo.

Thank you!!

Hi. Welcome!
Prep I assume has the white mix feathers.... I would decently say he is a cockrel. As for tiffany I saying she might be a Timothy!
But sometimes they can be tricky at this age. But I would be getting tiffany used to being called Timothy in my opinion.

X 2. I would say both are cockerels as I have never had a hen's comb become so big and red at 8 weeks.

Good luck. I hope it works for you.

My newest batch of chicks. Eleven hatched under two broody hens. I gave all of them to this hen to raise. She is the easiest to handle. Saturday is moving day to our new home. Tennessee, here we come-and goodbye Wisconsin!!!
