Yes.
This explains it pretty well, mainly in relation to Japanese bantams, but it’s the same gene. Big serama breeders have tried to breed away from it, but I guess it still shows up.

well I finally bit the bullet and emailed the poultry Dept at the University of Arkansas. I want to know what is what with feed for my Serama breeders. He's out judging the state fair and will get back with me. I was told layer feed is too low in protein for breeders.
Heck I might take a course or two in poultry management.

I am glad I found this serama thread. 6 weeks ago 3 serama chicks hatched and I am still trying to guess if they are pullets or cockerel. Here are some most recent pics. Thanks for your help.

For 6 weeks, I’d have to guess all pullets. Usually cockerels would the showing more comb/wattle development by now.

I agree.
But occasionally (quite rarely actually) the cockerels develop slow.
