I couldn't cull even though he was mean as could be. He would even peck at me when I would try to put him back in his coop, but for some reason my 18 month old loves him. He would never peck at her. There would be 10 chicks in there and she could always pick him out. that is the only thing that saved him. He is a little more rough with the hens then I would like and he started crowing at 6 weeks...maybe he just has some more testoterone than the others he is only 4 months old.

I have backyard chickens besides the Seramas. Mine are mostly Brahma. My Brahma roo is gentle because I've trained him to be that way. So, I'm hoping this little brute will calm himself down. I'm going to work with him and see how it goes.

There has been a lot of research recently on "nature vs. nurture" with people raising things such as foxes, which are real tough to domesticate and they're discovering that there is a "warrior gene".

We can make attitude adjustments but some animals (and humans) are just mean.

I've set some serama eggs on 7/20. I thought I read somewhere that they hatch earlier than "regular" eggs. What day should I go into lockdown?

Your housing for the birds is just beautiful. I would not consider that "small" cages and would feel very comfortable with keeping them in cages that large. I am in KY and I have a flat panel heater in the 5X8 coop so it does not get below 40 in the winter. I just cannot see putting 3 little birds in a 20X20 pen so I may fence off a portion near the pop hole so they can go outside a little when the weather is nice. I have 2 rabbit cages and a guinea pig cage that I have them in now on my porch. I could put these units inside the coop which might give them more security. My coops are in my back yard so they are never far away. I really do like them on my porch for now so I just walk out the door and there they are. Love those little guys!!

I have a hen I call Jungle Girl. She has green legs and although I'm not into showbirds, I do like yellow legs. She has a wildness about her that appeals to me and I wanted to see what kind of babies she would give. She turns out to be an excellent Mother, sat on her first clutch right away and she also raised them very fast and started hatching another brood right away.

She gives both yellow and green legged chicks and one of them is turning from brown, to blue.

My little sweetie Tumbleweed turned 8 months old today and she finally began setting.

She's got that 1000 yard stare now.

aukuma- The my eggs usually hatch at about 19 days. You might check with the person you got them from to find out for sure.

Some people, I belive,go into lockdown on day18..
Mine hatch at 19 or 20 days so I do lockdown at day17.
The last time I picked up an egg on day 18 to put it in the hatcher..it peeped at me.
It hatched the next day.......good Luck
