One of the girls on the AZ thread puts frozen water bottles, frozen greens (she put them in a cup and freezes them) and once at least, a frozen banana in with them. So far, I just have misters on my chicks (they are on the porch and the porch has misters), and they have done well. I cover half of their brooder so they can get away from the mist if they want to.

...I know exactly how you feel...I lost my only smooth chocolate girl to a hawk a while back, and while I was heartsick for her demise, I was also upset because my breeding program took a direct hit...Most times, I try to find a bright spot in situations like this, but I couldn't come up with one this time. My condolences for your lost loved ones!

Juliette

I'm so sorry!!!

Congrats! I hope they all hatch! The ones from my birds are really teeennsy too, I think because the birds are still young? Or maybe they will just always be small. When I have hatched shipped eggs, the ones between 18 grams and 30 grams were the ones that hatched. Anything bigger or smaller didn't hatch. Mine so far are staying around 20 grams. I have 6 more in the hatcher ...

all will hatch.

I've been losing duck and chicken eggs from my free roaming birds. I'm pretty sure a snake has been getting them! Since I had a duck setting on a nest of about 14 duck eggs. She even had a hen join her on the nest.

The day they were to hatch I checked and all the eggs were gone!

So I looked around on the internet and found out how to make my own snake trap! I thought some might like to make some too, so here's how....

Take a piece of PVC pipe (the size you think your snake might be in length, ect..., I made two different sizes), I cut a cover for one end from a butter bowl lid and duck taped that end shut. Then you take a funnel (Walmart sells a really nice plastic one for $1.72) cut off the narrow end to the dia, size you think your snake may be, place it in the open end of your PVC pipe and duck tape in place. Now lay it close to a wall where you think the snake may be traveling. He crawls in and can't back up to get out!

Sure hope mine has a snake in it this morning! Sure want to catch it quick! I gave the duck and hen some more eggs to set on since they seem determined to sit!

Gotta go feed, ect.... I'm late and I feel everyone calling! But, I'll be back!

Hope it works and you have a snake this morning!!! Thanks for the trap instructions too, you never know when you might need something like that!
