Oh, I meant testing to see if my pic was going to post. Although, I will need to learn how to get them to pose, too!

And yes, this is one of my daughter's pullets from Kate. We are so thrilled with them!

Okay, here are some pics to share... I was not even going to try to pose 6 week old chicks,
so, these shots are just for color only. And that is a full size Orpington egg with them.

First.. Cara's 3 chicks from her Cocopop project, 6 weeks old today

#1- 4.9 oz

#2- 4.8 oz

#3- 5.4 oz

And lastly, my teeny tiny chick from my Mottled rooster, and silver something or other hen.

6 1/2 weeks old, 2.6 oz

half the size of the other chicks.

Help.......don't know what to do! One chick has pipped but it has been that way for a long time and the chick is very vocal. It seems to be turned the wrong way and it is trying ti zip towards the length of the egg. It's little beak is very visible and it is trying to open and close it around the shell. Interference or no??? I was trying to make the hole in the membrane a little larger and I put a damp paper towel over the opening because it seemed that the membrane was too thick and it was having trouble getting through. How much help can I give it?? It has been working since yesterday.

I've had them go way past 24 hours but they tend to get tired . give a bit then i would say it would be safe to help the little guy but it might just be a weak chick also so give it time then help but go slow and take your time . good luck .

Thank you, that is kind of the approach I've been using with it so I will just continue and gently remove a little shell for it at intervals if it does't make some progress. If it is so tired that it would die anyway, I might as well try to help a little.

I'd help! Slowly peel back tiny bits of shell away from the beak area. If a blood drop appears, dab it with CORN STARCH! Wait a few hours and try again. Be sure you place your pip up so nothing blocks the chicks air.

I've done lots of chicks and ducks like this and they grew up to be just fine. I always kick myself in the butt if I don't intervene and the chick dies from exhaustion, lack of oxygen or whatever.
