American serama thread!

I don't have any really good pictures of the 2 cockerels.
But here are two pictures of one of two, you get the idea of what he looks like..

Wow, he looks just like mom!!!

If you scroll back a page or two, I took pics of one of my mottled cockerels taking a dust bath. He was black and white at 3 months old, and as he matured, he got some brown into his saddle feathers.

I have two sons of his at 10 weeks, one is B/W, and the other is B/W with some brown bleeding through on the saddles again. They could change at any minute. I am not counting on any particular color at this point!

Congrats! Cant wait to see pixs!
Czech's_chicks :

I'm going to be checking in here a lot now - we just bought a breeding pair for my son for 4H. The Roo is a champion, however, the former owner cut his comb, so he's not show quality, but will be an awesome breeder!!!! The best part, the person we got them from is a 4H leader, she got him for free (because of the comb)and we got the pair for $30. K will be starting in October.

We wanted him to be able to start start from the egg up. His smile was priceless. I'll post pics soon.

I have had a heck of a time even giving seramas away. The market here has dropped off the face of the earth for seramas. That is one big reason why I am not working with them anymore. Its even harder when your hatches are 95% or better roosters, been that way for 2 years for me..... I have one roo I have been trying to find a new home for for over a year now, no luck.

I have a serious dilemma! Okay, so my dear wonderful husband built a nice outdoor coop for my large fowl. Which was great. I loved him dearly for it, but now he is like...okay...I am done. At least that is his body language. The more we get behind on house projects and such the more my seramas have been pushed to the back burner. It was okay for a while, but now it's become to the point of just about inhumane and I'm and just infuriated, but I of course can't say ANYTHING to the hubby or he will be M-A-D.

When my first 4 seramas outgrew the brooder I put them in an old wire dove cage. More like a transport size cage for them. At the time it was okay. They were still small, but now:

I had up until 2 days ago 2 cockerels, 2 hens, and an EE in there. I took my curly hen out as she is just getting picked at. There is simply NOT enough room. It's embarrassing! My favorite serama is having to live in here and I was promised months ago by my husband he was going to build them hutches outdoors where I can have enough room for one male to two hens etc etc and they would have PLENTY of room in each section. It's still not happened!!!! And yes, today is cleaning day. Only reason it looks grimy. I do keep it clean with shavings and newspaper and such in the slide out tray.

My frizzleds should also be beautiful, but they are so worn out and ragged. This male pictured I'd have love to put in our county fair, but no way that was happening in this condition!!

And then I have some 14 week old (give or take a week or two?) chickies still in a brooder because when I got them in July he was going to begin building.

(Again, today is cleaning day and they've gotten so big they knock everything over daily)

They are all healthy, fat, etc. But they are living in little jail houses. And I'm so sad! I need a way to approach the hubby! Suggestions? He is one to get "offended" easily and if he knew I even posted this he would have an absolute holy fit. My whole plans are to have a nice little backyard flock in the future and have chicks from these guys, but I can't do any of that without a HOME for them. Good grief! I'm at wits end here. I thought about asking my dad to come to my house and help out. He helped by building a nesting box in the coop outside and we did it like 20 minutes flat while my hubby was out of town. It was another thing that my hubby was slacking on. And my husband has nice carpentry skills too. He builds tank stands for HIS saltwater fish often. Even stains them and everything else, but gosh forbid I ask him to help me with something. ARGH ARGH ARGH

Check craigslist .. There are some good buys & free finds there.. Just tell him you are going to get what ever you find just until he can build you this wonderful set up .. Sorry guys .. But it will help if you rub his head ( figuratively speaking) with how nice his skills are as in .. These will work for now but they sure arnt as nice as yours ...

I built most of my coops all by myself. Circular saw, screws and a drill. I say get started on your own, and perhaps when he sees you working on it, he'll offer to help, or supervise?

If you draw out a plan, with dimensions, many of the lumber places will make the cuts for you. Then all you have to do is assemble.
