American serama thread!

im lot less picky some time with my hens male im realy picky about

you guys should be more picky on your hens... i am...

also shelly... you should still cull, but hatch more... it will take a lot longer, but a good quality hen is worth the time... and remember, type, type, type... just because it's chocolate and someone would want it, doesn't mean it should be sold/given to breed somewhere else... they're just destroying the serama breed by doing that IMO... bad enough the american standard is different than the malay standard... but breeding in culls, you're working backwards... that means you're going to have twice as many culls when they have chicks...

plan smart, and plan ahead...

I love it when they do that i have a couple of them that do that i can take them out and set them on anything and Bam! they pose . i wish they all came like that lol .

Benny is getting better looking every day, I think. He was hatched in Lousiana and then came to Missouri. A special lady gave him to me to help me get my start in Seramas.

I knew Bobby was into a barred project, so I have passed him on to help Bobby out. I know that Bobby gives away a lot of birds and I felt he would appreciate Benny, so enjoy!

Hey Bobby, get a new and much better picture of him soon, my pics are not the best. He has a great chest and likes to strut.

zyklonbetty, many breeders use leg bands to identify the bird from each other. Year of hatch, parentage, etc. They can be plastic, metal, or even colored cable ties. They can be removed if you desire, up to you.

This is Spence. He was hatched in Jan and 8 mos old in this pic. I plan to start showing him and some of his offspring next year. The chicks below are just two out of 24 of his chicks that were hatched the weekend of July 23rd. The chicks are 6 wks old in the pics. I knew two of the pullets were carrying the silkied gene but I didn't know Spence did until four silkied hatched. I'll try and get pics and put them all up a few at a time. There's some very nice pullets too!!

The cockerel above at 8wks old. He was getting a "time out" of their cage because he and another cockerel were fighting.

WELCOME! I am also new to Seramas. There are some on this thread that will sell you eggs and others have birds for sale that they are not going to use in a breeding program.
A couple on here do not think "Pet" Quality Seramas should be sold but I for one do not get on BYC to argue and when the hatcheries start selling Seramas there will be pet Quality ALL over the place!
I do not show myself so was interested in birds that are not showable. If you start reading this thread there are birds available info on some pages back. Usually have to Email or PM the person for pricing. Best of luck to you! There is also another thread for Serama pictures. You might get more info over there also.
