She can't just be buff? That's what I'm going for. I need to get rid of the black, and the gold should be more even, but is she that far off? This is what I want my wheatens to look like:

um, you can get rid of the black by diluting it... but you're gonna need to throw in some dun/fawn or choc- or di and MH or db or... man, there are all kinds of ways to make buffs... that's why they're so hard to breed...

good luck though...

oh, and that second hen looks more like db than wheaton...

Black is next, then I'm not sure what the order of the others are but they are working on mottled, wheaten, barred/cuckoo, and blue. I think the next after black will be either mottled or wheaten.

Thanks Bluebird and Froggie. I love all the colors. I had colors pop up that I've never gotten before and even better the type looks to be improving but only time will tell. They're also the friendliest chicks I've hatched. With there being that many they don't get handled as much as they should but they all try to fly up on my arm when I go to get one out..lolol.. It also makes it hard to get good pics of them because they try to come to me and end up on my shoulder or the top of my head.

X2....they are looking good!!!! Oh wow, I am on 3rd generation too; I can see big improvement in my flock type from my foundation birds. Even though I am breeding for double laced cocopop silver duckwings colored, I am still selecting for type over color and also keeping willow legs birds with type in my breeding pens.

Today I read the thread on the cocopop color and just finished reading these new posts. I was first attracted to the breed because it was a "mini" chicken and was fascinated with that idea. I knew nothing about colors or breeding.........just that they are small and like human contact. If I couldn't handle my chickens, I wouldn't want chickens! The other thing that attracts me to the chickens are the colors and patterns they come in. I have always had a thing for color and pattern. The bonus for me with the Seramas is the idea that you never know what beautiful combinations you are going to get.........most people don't anyway. I have hatched 16 babies from my trio and I am just fascinated with them and watching how they change. I DO want size and type but I think the color combos are the most fun. Look at all the beautiful birds all of you have. Call them whatever color names you want and accept the fact that you may never get another one like it.........maybe similar. I personally am not interested in showing them but would be happy to sell SQ birds to someone who likes showing. I would of course keep some of my favorites for breeding but I just really enjoy having the babies and handling them and seeing what I get that appeals to me personally.
I'm not very scientific or am I very commercially oriented. I breed for fun and what better bundle of genetics in a small package who like humans, could you find??

Things on these threads get very heated and competitive. I, for one, love the forums for the knowledge I can gain and seeing all the other beautiful birds and adorable chicks I can see that I would otherwise never know existed. Some of them really blow me away.

Well that is my position on the Serama and the forums. Why try to get so technical about a breed that is already so beautiful and kind?? Brenda
