Ok, I just got back form home depot and got 300 lbs of washed clean sand for my cages, Now the work begins...

Can anyone tell me what they feed their chicks and adults? Jerry said gamebird crumble but I cant remember for what age? I want to have some healthy birds and want to get on a feed schedule and need advise.

There are alot of schools of thought about what to feed the little gremlins. I personally feed Purina Layena and little scratch/ black oil sunflower seeds for a treat and fruits/vegies and sone hard boiled egg. I know others will give you their own recipies.......

OOPS, chick starter for the wee ones until they are 2 months old.......

lol, 300 lbs is only 6 bags of play sand. Last load I got a dump truck full but we are out and I have no money to buy a load. Thanks for the feed info too.

Chickens shouldn't ever have gamebird feed unless it's one of the lower protein types (flight conditioner is only 19%). Gamebird starter is 28-32% protein, way too much for chickens!

I feed my chicks a 20% medicated chick starter and my adults get 16% layer crumbles.

I feed my Seramas Purena Layena (at the recommendation of the breeder I got them from) and I like it. Their feathers look great and their eggs shells are never thin or soft.

As far as feed for a serama . Seramas need 16 to 18 percent protein you give them to much and there combs get big and they put on weight . so this is what i feed my birds i get a bag of layer crumble a bag of wild bird seed a bag of scratch and a bag of nutri - blend green and i mix these about two cups of crumble to a cup of the rest but i go real light on the scratch i don't like to feed to much corn unless its real cold . hope this helps if you have any more ? just ask .
