She also did a great big poster from her research on the Seramas. This was her first year. I am very proud of her. No one in our small county had seen/heard of Seramas so they were a big hit.
Infact...there was a tiny (3 year old) little girl who was trying to fit and show a giant duck. It was not cooperating. The judge finally took the duck away, handed it to dad, turned to the cages behind him, grabbed Adam (our serama - the one in the photo) and handed it to her.
The judge had shown in a bit of a "how to" before the fitting and showing competition how big a bird a kid should have. Adam (our serama) did really well for the little girl. We had 2 chicks that we had hatched out and this little girl and her dad came up just this last Saturday and took home a little cockerel. I told him that the bird was only pet quality, but would be perfect for the little girl. Sounds like it is going to be a house bird - even better. We did not sell it, we said the only payment we wanted was a photo of her working with her bird. I am excited to see her next year at the fair.
It was funny, in the audience some woman snided off making a comment (when the judged grabbed Adam and gave to this little girl) "Oh, great, he gave her a rooster...this is going to be a disaster". I spoke up, "of all the birds in this barn....that was the best bird he could have given her". The judge knew we would not mind. She shut up.
