Do you have other birds who are vaccinated? It is my understanding that the Marek's vaccine causes the bird to 'carry' the virus, meaning they will shed it their entire life. If you have other birds who are vaccinated and choose to not vaccinate others, the ones not vaccinated could catch the disease from the vaccinated birds.

If you have electric, I would use a flat panel heater. No blowing of hot air. Warms just enough and does not take up any room. Without electric, I don't know.

No I do not have any birds who are vaccinated at this time. I am looking at possibly getting the "killed" virus to vaccinate everyone.
I have done so much studying on this my head is about ready to blow up.
I have friends who DO NOT and I have friends who DO vaccinate.
A gentleman...down the road from me stopped by to tell me he lost a couple of his layers (he sells eggs is all) and he sent 1 in...it had Marek's. now from studying .... most all birds have been exposed just because of wild birds and it is in the air. The 1 bird that he sent in for necropsy was not vaccinated...but he at the same time he got that bird...got some birds from McMurray...and they were vaccinated. So that is probably where the 1 bird got it. Also, once over 6 months (so I have been told) you are most likely safe.
I still have not decided and I was looking for opinions is all, I guess. This is a very confusing topic for me.

If people do not want to comment on here...please pm me...I am still looking for MY right answer and have not yet decided. NO....I have nothing on my place that has EVER shown any signs or symptoms of Marek's...I am just looking for preventative measures and YES...I will have to vaccinate all future birds (as per my understanding).

I was lead to believe that only large hatcheries needed to vaccinate.

Private breeders can vaccinate as well, it's a matter of preference.
