American serama thread!

How crooked is it? Some chickens do OK with it that way, [if its not too crooked] but if you don't want to take the extra time to care for him/her, maybe find a home for it or..........cull....see what others say. Just my opinion. I like to save the lame/informed so I might be a crummy sounding board....

From my experience i would buy SQ/breeders first. Because most breeders will hatch alot of eggs and then pick out type. IMO I hope this isnt taking wrong. or nor do i want it taking wrong. I started the same way with eggs. ok i will say it Ebay eggs

lol but never really got type in my serama's Unless your know the breeders flock and shows them. Ebay never had any luck. So if your going for type/SQ def buy your serama's and get a good start. Will save alot of time and money.

That is my plan, I'm just waiting for the man to get back from a show and I hope I can buy them next week. I just had a moment of weakness and bought these eggs...

I've actually had a hard time trying to find someone willing to sell me some nice birds

Apparently when you have nice serama you tend to keep them to yourself!

Seems a bit selfish to me

Don't do that, I'll take it, if you don't want it! As for the green legs, even if it's a male, you can always sell him there's still people (like me) who would take him. My birds are my pets, not show birds. But I hope it's a hen to, she/he is very pretty.

You can have a green legged roo, but he will pass it on to all of his chicks. Females only get 1 gene for green legs, so if she doesn't have green legs she doesn't have the gene. Males need 2 genes for green legs so a green-legged rooster would produce green-legged pullets and cockerels who carry the green-legged gene. Still not a total disaster as long as you don't use those males or breed them only to females who have yellow legs.

Chaili, where did you find the info for Small Class??? I have 2 pullets barely make the cutoff weight at 9.6 oz, I don't want to get DQ just in case they make it to the 2nd tier.

Both are 6 months old.
