I don't think your vet will probably be able to do the blood test. A state program or university is probably a better shot. Your vet should be able to point you in the right direction.

Here is a link to a little more info:

Thank you for the info. I called my vet's office and got another vet's office recommended because they do birds. They do not do any Merecks testing either. I may try the Uof K. I know they do necropsies for like $10.00.
My rooster is still worse than the hen but I am afraid he is suffering now because he is shaking some of the time. I may have to have the vet put him down tomorrow as I do not want him to suffer. I do not know if he will make it until morning. He is now soiling himself which he was not doing before. I wash him off and try to keep him comfortable but I do not think he feeling well.
Maybe if I take him in, my vet will try an antibiotic or something before culling them. I'll see tomorrow morning. I just hope this thing doesn't take the life of any of the other birds.

Oh, I'm sorry that is happening. I hope he's not suffering too much. Hopefully it's something he can get past, but it does sound pretty bad.

Thank you.......I have been walking around with a black cloud over my head since I discovered the first one. I need to get over this and move on. I'm up to my eyebrows in Mareks info and my hope for all the vitamin therapies I've given them is just about gone. How many people have to deal with Merecks? My husband, who was happy with my Serama breeding, has now started saying that if they are so fragile and get these illnesses, maybe I shouldn't breed them. That makes me very sad because I always thought that Merecks was not very common in the small breeder environment. I have done everything I can to keep my birds clean, healthy, happy and safe. Is this something I will have happen over and over?? Sorry, just feeling a little bad about everything right now.

On the vitamins should be good. Is he well hydrated? May try Pedialyte. Is there any way that he could have cocci? I have had my own personnal tragedies with cocci. Go to byc and check symptoms. If you think could be...get Corid...can pick it up at your local feedstore. It is in a powder form. If you want to "verify" take a stool sample to vet...they all have cocci...but sometimes it gets out of balance and it can kill them.

In my prayers. So sorry foryour stress.

Thank you. He has been drinking and I have also given him save a chick with an eye dropper. He does not have any of the symptoms of coccidiosis. He does have the symptoms of the Merecks.

I know it's hard, but don't beat yourself up over this.

I was told that virtually every poultry flock worldwide has exposure to Marek's. I think a lot of birds are carriers for it but just don't always develop the full blown disease.

Although it sounds so much like Marek's, you really don't know it is until you get a necropsy. I sure hope you don't have to, but if your rooster is suffering, well, I know what I would do.

I hope your birds get better... and if they don't.... I hope you can get a negative report.

So sorry you are having to deal with this.
