American serama thread!

I wait around 5 months sometimes if they are real long then they go before 5 months but if im not sure then they stay longer.

My daughter wants me to get an incubator so she can try to hatch some chicks. I'm looking at the very small Brinseas. Do I want the automatic turner for Serama eggs? It seems like I remember reading somewhere that you don't want the autoturner with Seramas...is that true?

What works for you guys?

I have the genesis 1588 with the auto turner. I hadn't seen anything about not using it for serama eggs. It moves extremely slow, shifting eggs completely from one side to side to the other in 4 hours.

I did read that the serama eggs only need 19 days instead of 21 so I placed them in two days later than the others. I also understand they need more humidity since they are smaller so they are directly over the water well. As I posted above, six of the seven are still viable as of last evening but I'm not candling again though I will move them out of the turner for lock down on Sunday. Hopefully this will be a successful hatch since it is my first with these tiny birds.

What don't you like about the Brinsea? Are there other brands that have really small incubators that are still decent quality?

I was just looking at the Brinsea because they have the really small incubators. We're not going to be doing a lot of hatching. It's just for fun.

I was just looking at the Brinsea because they have the really small incubators. We're not going to be doing a lot of hatching. It's just for fun.

The only thing I dislike about the Brinsea is that it does'nt have a thermostat. As a result, it takes a bit of trial and error to get the temp set. Brinsea was my first incubator and I always liked it. It looks cool and performed well after I got the temp right. I think the Genesis has spoiled me because there is no need to mess with the temp. If small is what you need, Brinsea is a quality product and very easy to keep clean!
