American serama thread!

I'm using one of little giant incubators and it holds up to like 40 standard eggs. Speaking of which...could my eggs be damaged by sticking them in the large egg turner? It seems doubtful they'd get too jostled as slow as it turns...

And sure I can wait a few weeks. Might be good for me so there are less temp swings in my house. It's literally been 70 last week then 19 one night. I had to bring my seramas inside. Was do scared they'd die in the cold!

i use the same set up and it works for me . ok i will get some eggs to you in a few weeks my friend . i run mine at 20 to 30% humidity and at lock down i bump it up to around 70%

I will try to maintain about 30%. With all my water trays filled it stays about 30. It will not hot 50 or more until I add extra water sources. South Carolina is naturally humid too.

Ok as far as the bator issue .. I have button quail eggs that are SUPER tiny so what I done was take an egg carton & cut the cups out & put sand in them to "hold" the eggs still & put it in my turner .. I have a LG still air .. Hatch day is the 12 ( not sure of the quality of the eggs) .. Hang on I'll get a pic...

I don't use and egg turner at all, I turn mine about 3 times a day. Keep the humidity about 50 until lock down when I turn it to 70. I kept my temp 100-102 and I had a 5 out of 7 hatch (non-shipped eggs). Not sure if I'm a terrible person or not, but I heard the higher temp is more likely to weed out the boys. Which considering thats pretty much all I've hatched before this batch, I was willing to do. Also I keep my eggs in an egg carton, with no top, so I can turn them from one direction to the other easily. I started doing this, because when I started off, all I heard about was that they air-sac needed to be elevated. I continued to do it because of the easy turning, I could do it quickly and smoothely with out leaving the top off to long. When It comes close to hatching time, I'll move them to the lid of the egg carton which I line with tissues and so the eggs can be on their sides. I had a chick have a hard time getting of it's egg in the egg carton, most don't they seem to handle it fine and they end up hopping around the incubator in no time. But using the lid is kind of a precaution, also I don't like that the eggs are elevated so that when the chick hatches and wants down there's a drop. They're such tiny little things.
