Thanks they are a hoot. It has been about a year since i bought my first trio the black hen is one from that group all the others were hatched here and most are just starting to lay. I am looking for a nice sq roo to help bring the flock one step closer to sq but still along way to go if I can get there at all with what i got who knows?

what do you think

You will get there. I am sure you will. Its hard to look at them with a critical eye, when you love everything about them, try some pairs, and see what you get. I like to take side shots of my birds in their best pose, and compare them to the drawings of the standard. As long as your breeding gets you closer to the standard, then you're on the right track. Of course, if you have the $$$ you may get there faster by buying what you want

But you know what, luck has something to do with it too. Sometimes a $300 bird will produce $3 offspring, and vice versa!! That's seramas for you!!

I am hatching from 4-5 new pairs this year. I think my original rooster will retire to the pet pen. He made some great babies, but I lost his "wife" last weekend

. At this point his sons are starting to look better than him, so they will be my next breeders. Not sure about his daughters, they have decent type, just really small. Not sure if they will make good breeders or not.
