American serama thread!

I thought they looked a bit brownish instead of green. They might turn a bit more yellow and be less dark as the chick grows, but they probobly won't be the color that is standard in mainstream show chickens. Pet chicken owners and certain Serama clubs don't mind leg color, and it's one of the easiest traits to fix if you are planning on breeding for shows. It looks like you're taking good care of it!

Cluck cluck, leg and beak color do not matter if you decide to show your baby TableTop. Right now, white is the only *recognized* color variety and legs and beak must be yellow (for in -cage showing and eligibility for Best in Show title) and several other colors are being worked on for recognition (exchequer, black, wheaten I think....) whose leg and beak colors are different. None are green though. Leg color can change from babyhood to adulthood for sure. I have some 15 1/2 week old youngsters who started out with really dark legs that have black over yellow now, so they lightened up a good bit.

I'd not worry a whole lot about it, and when you breed that baby, pair it with one with nice yellow legs and beak. It'll all work out in the end

I have to get new photos of Autumn today. She is turning a darker color ....not sure what she's gonna be. Certainly feathering in much differently than I thought she might, based on her pale down color!

Wow, I guess the only color I'd really like that is official is wheaten. I love buff, partridge and red colors I truly hope that when breeders do get the serama to breed true to color, that they don't lose that adorable look of theirs

I hope that there is always a place for *non standard* colors on tabletop. That is where the breed started, and to make it just another chicken breed with only a few colors would be boring. I love the "OMG what is it gonna be" factor of their color

Speaking of...my 3 week old baby, Autumn!! No idea yet what she's going to feather out like, once shes grown. And she does indeed, have a tail, which is normally bolt upright, but she was pretty scared and kept tucking it... little booger.

I have a wheaten pullet that someone gave to me. She's only 3 months though, and I can't really say much about her yet. Hopefully she'll be pretty mature in January for me to figure if she's going to be a good confirmation bird.

I'd like to add, that if anyone is breeding just to get standard colors, and not for type first, they're doing it wrong. The breed type is what makes the Serama...that and the Serama character. Color is secondary. I'd rather have a whole shed full of typy, correct traditional Seramas (the random colors) than one bird that is a recognized color but which is horribly lacking in type.

As long as breeders continue to strive for type first, color and everything else later, once their type is set, then the Seramas will always keep their adorable look

Just got home from there. Your bei were beautiful. My 3 year old told me she wanted those duckies, she loves them, lol, when we were looking at them. There were a lot of pretty serama's there too. I loved the silkie ones. I met someone there and picked up a few more chicks, after seeing adult serama's in person I can't wait until these babies grow up.

Thanks I would have slipped her an east Indie Drake, I have extra. The silkIed we're ours too. Kaylee won champions table to top and bb in cage. She won a three hole show box that was provided by show me seramas our club.p

Congrats! We just went to look around and learn. I'd like to start showing this spring, and my 3 year old wants to too. She loved it, said she wanted to go again as we were walking to the car and she wants to take 2 birds, lol. She also loved the white calls, but they didn't love her back and scattered when she stood by them.

Oh, and the 3 new serama's with my 2.

HELP!! I dont know what to do!! My eggs are on day 22 and nothing was happening until tonight. 2 out of 3 are dead and one is still living and has pipped internally it hasnt peeped at all. Im getting worried. I have heard about people pipping for seramas but I dont know how!
