Americana not laying colored eggs......

I'm seeing lots of different birds in this thread. I thought they were all simular to mine. I didn't realize there was so much varience in apperance.

Does anyone have a picture of a hen that lays a blue egg? The blue seems to be a little more rare than the green. I would like to know what she would look like.

I have 2 Ameraucanas and one is buff with black columbian markings on her neck and tail and lays green eggs and a mostly black hen who lays blue. Wish the blue one would lay again. She laid one egg and hasn't laid since. I do have some cross hens (not to Ameraucanas though, they're RIR/Blue Andalusians) and they lay pink eggs.

Because of their mixed background, EE's can lay a variety of colours. From tinted (pink), blue, aqua even olive green. I think it's like Christmas when one's EE's start laying, you just never know what you're going to get.

I have an EE that may be laying a white egg (it's between her and a BR that looks like a mixed breed). I'm going to try and catch them in the act today to see which girl it is.

Hawk looks just like the new bird I got yesterday that is supposed to be a Sicilian Buttercup.

My new bird does have a peculiar comb though that I suppose rules her out as being an EE, or an Ameracauna. If you are looking down at her comb, it looks like a raised V. Very interesting, either way. I'm excited to see what happens when she starts laying. I have a hunch I'll need to get a light installed in the henhouse if I want to see any more eggs this season though.

OK, I have that SAME bird, 3 in fact, because we were told they were "ameraucanas" and would lay colored eggs. That was the whole reason we bought them. Mine are only about 4 months old and have not started laying yet. If they do not lay colored eggs my kids are going to be SOOO disappointed!! Were can you get 'real' Araucanas and how do you know if they are pure bred or not. (if mine don't lay colored eggs?)
