I was told they often get called Easter egger but its actually an Ameraucana. What's the difference?

First of all a lot of people call them "americanas" so that they can pass them off as a purebred even though that isnt the way you spell it or they amricanas(the easter egger chicken). They are ereallly EEs. Ameraucanas can be shown they come in 8 accepted colors-blue,black,white, buff, brown red, silver, wheaten, and blue wheaten. Ameraucanas lay blue eggs. they have slate legs. They have a beard. And they have pea combs.EEs cannot be shown and do not come in a certain list of colors people often call thema basket of suprises.EEs have green, and sometimes yellow legs. They should have a pea comb, but sometimes they don't They lay blue, green, or pink eggs. They usually have a beard but sometimes they are beardless. Those are pretty much the differences.Aneraucanas are a purebreed and Easter Eggers are a mix.YOu can get on this website www.ameraucana.org and see pics of the accepted color and read the breed standard. You will see that yours does not look like any of them.

Thanks for the info. the bad spelling is all me. lol She's a rascal either way. I had to put her in time out a couple times for being a bully, which worked. She gets along well with everyone else now even the ducks. She's my daughters fav and will actually like using calling it a Easter Egger.

It's one of those weird things, unless you got the chicken from a well known breeder, and it is an accepted color it is called an EE. Even if both parents are pure bred Ameraucana's and the chick turns out to be the wrong color, people will argue that is not an Ameraucana, it's an EE (any breed of chicken bred to a blue egg gene). I was thinking about getting some "real Ameraucana's" but with how cranky some of the "Ameraucana people" can be, I'll just stick with my EE's. I have several and I love them!!

Oh, and he looks like a rooster to me.

O i guess i figured the person you got it from spelled it that way, but your not alone tons of people make the mistake. I used to spell it wrong too.EEs are great chickens and make awesome buddies.
