The dog I really really want is a jet black Alaskan Husky names Ninja, but he's not for saleThe name Okimaw would still be good for a lead dog.
names don't really care too much about color. LOL
I love sibs, but I don't know if I could handle more than 4 at a time. Lol. I love there independent personalitys. I don't like lovey dovey dogs. I like stubborn dogs.
I ain't crazy bout lovey dovey dogs either. I really ain't a fan of needy anyhtings, people horses dogs birds whatever. However, I been around dogs enough to know that I dislike stubborn anything too though, especially dogs. Stubborn dogs are not really good when you're 60 miles from the middle of nowhere into the bush or out on Lake Winnipeg. There is a positive stubborn referred to as persistent. I like consistency in a dog but not consistently stubborn.
I'm hoping to go in February. She's so pretty!
Okay, I guess. Then again, I've only got one dog...So how is everyone's fall training going?? I'm starting to run with my mentor again.
Ooooh! I like that name... Maybe a future pup shall be his namesake.... If you don't mind.Do you remember me telling y'all about my leader Okimaw? He lead my sled teams for 14 winters from his second to his 16th winter. He would've been 17 years old if he lived a few more weeks. Pronounced OOOO-KEE-MAAoooo. 1 that is chosen to preceed others because of his/her wisdom, gentle ways, intelligence, hardworking ethics, and willingness to proceed with such. Team dog could be called Atim. Pronounced aahTIHm. There's a long story for that too but in short and according to the English impatience "dog". Pipaystin-Cree for "a snowdrift". Pronounced pihPAYStin Pipoon-Cree for "Winter". Pronounced PIHpoohn Neepawin-Cree for he/she/it is already (as opposed to in the process of) "Standing". Pronounced NEEpaaWIN. If you do chose Okimaw and especially as a lead I would be so very honoured. Mine was a good dog that many mushers would've envied.
True... Interesting information, though.Yeah, Siberians seem much easier to find than Alaskans. Even if I have to ship pups. I've only found one breeder of Alaskans but they don't ship dogs and they keep all their pups until they are 1 year old to see if they make their team. If I ever do get to have a team, that would probably be my dream team. Unfortunately Americano Blue is just about 100% correct. It seems the inbreeding that's happened for generations has lend unto them the propensity to just go and not come home. You need to remember that most of today's Sibes are from Leonhard Seppalla's original teams. That's not a big gene pool. On top of that some of the foundation females were very shy and reclusive. So because people wanted cookie cutter looks and "Siberian Husky" dogs we ended with something rather like FASD crossed with egocentricity, not any real loyalty. But they are pretty. The original Sibes however were a different story. But it would be a very very expensive undertaking to aquire original "Chuckchi" dogs. Alaskan huskies seem to be more of a home finding dog. But they are still a dog that requires a lot of exercise to be really happy, not unlike the Sibe, one of the original bloodlines in the Alaskan. And yes they are still 99.8% mitochondrialDNA identical to the Wolf, a carnivore.
Yeah, my parents don't want to have a whole bunch of dogs that are gonna run away or be expensive so I will have to tie them up or build pens ($$$ pricy). :/Nala's never not came home. She ran off afew times and we didnt see her for 4weeks. But she came homewe knew were she went, 4houses down. Lol, she wanted there chickens, I think. Lol they tried keeping her, but if they tried trapping her shed run away. Lol, the people are nice, they just wanted a dog. But sibs are not for everyone. I love sibs, and my family but, my siblings and parents aren't husky owners.
Thorin is a good name. Does it mean anything in particular?I use mine as a work team as well I might choose Okimaw. He is Meringue's brother and the pup i want to buy is their niece. So far the top names are 1. Thorin 2. Okimaw 3. Rosco
He sounds like he was a wonderful dog. That'd be so awesome. Thank you. I got a tad emotional there for a sec. I haven't been able to name any others Okimaw. He is irreplaceable. I haven't even had any others that look like him so it hasn't been hard to not name another Okimaw. Until I do find one that is a smart and good looking leader prospect I will personally refrain from using it. But as I said earlier, I would so honoured if you chose Okimaw. If not, good enough. Tis your dog and I'll be happy for you anyway.
That would be awesome! An all black dog named Ninja...The dog I really really want is a jet black Alaskan Husky names Ninja, but he's not for sale![]()
Same here. Like with our horses, if they are rubbing on us for attention they get nothing but a light smack on the nose (unless we scratch them and we make them rub). But then you don't want a stubborn horse because when you're pushing a bunch of cows somewhere but the horse doesn't want to cross water or something it doesn't work very well. Update! My Lab/Dane (Rowdy) and I have begun light training. He has been pulling an empty wagon that we had sitting around. He pulls it around while I do chores. He isn't very independant (I think it's the Lab in him) so he walks by me the whole time. I don't think he will ever make a lead or even swing dog but maybe a wheel because he is so big and quite strong. Maybe if I hooked him up to a trained team, he would take to it just fine. I just need a trained team, first, lol.I ain't crazy bout lovey dovey dogs either. I really ain't a fan of needy anyhtings, people horses dogs birds whatever. Thanks! If i can find away to get there I really want to see Race to the Sky one day! That and the Iditarod! Sadly I don't have the money for a bunch of plane fair *sigh*I'm hoping to go in February. She's so pretty!![]()

She looks a lot like Rowdy! Whoever named Ninja is awesome. I am only about 3 hours away from where Race To The Sky is held each year so maybe I will get to go. The Iditarod will have to wait until I'm old enough to live my myself, sadly. Thanks! If i can find away to get there I really want to see Race to the Sky one day! That and the Iditarod! Sadly I don't have the money for a bunch of plane fair *sigh* Yeah, it's easy with one dog lol! hey I already claimed that name! LOL! No but it's the name of a Dwarf in the Hobbit! I really want Ninja but if he was for sale he would be way too much! Hey, that's what I thought about my lab shar pi mix Cindy. She is soo cuddly and not independent, she will scream if she is by herself. I had though she could only be a team dog, but I was so wrong. Cindy now runs lead with Meringue (She will run swing if i get the other dog) and rocks it! She has mastered the commands....well except "Gee!", and is awesome at keeping everyone at a trot! She has basically trained Meringue and does better then her! (honestly I think Meringue feels I insulted her breed by making her run swing while Cindy takes lead lol! ) Also, you can call him by his name. We know it by now I mean I talk about my dogs by their name even if you guys have no idea who they are!![]()
This is Cindy my 4h, pet, therapy, sled, "lap" and companion dog!
