How is your hen doing now? I hope she is recovering well and you work something out about your rooster.
This happened to my hen - Meta with our rooster a few years back.
Meta had a big pocket into her flesh on her side from the rooster spur. I took her to the VET as it was such a big hole. She got 7 days of saline water to clean twice a day, and antibiotic, Meta recovered well.
The rooster's spur! ...Meta did not like the rooster and so he pinched her down badly. My only solution was never let him near Meta ever again since that time. Meta lived in a different run with a few other hens, so they only mingle 1 or 2 a days as a whole flock and I had to make sure he was not chasing her. With the other hens they squat down so he was not forceful.
Like you, I trimmed down his spur considerably, but it grew back so fast...I do have a little Pekin rooster now and I do limit his time with my bantam flock. The mating ritual is brutal sometimes, he did not like to be separated, it took awhile, but now it is ok for him to spend time by himself. Lot of work for me to get him to this stage, all worth it.
