SternRose, I'm sorry to hear that. I think they probably have their good reasons. I hope you take the high road. I

To everyone, I need to correct myself.
Pipoon's mom was Baby. Baby's mom was Robin.
Baby's dad was Stinky, a pure old line Dene Dog. We called them that because the Dene(pronounced dehnay) people raised these dogs for hundreds, maybe thousands of years. They are practically bred out of existence now because of a government implemented plan to annihilate them.
Pity, they were an awsome creature. Rangy? rangie?, longlegged and slender, fast, tough and wolfy? wolfie? looking.
It's snowing here again. Little flakes, it's gona snow for a cpl days. My little quad/training buggy is gona be resting till spring now.
Break out the sled.:celebrate:weee

I woke up this morn to find I was correct about "small flakes" & snowing a long time(as opposed to occasional flurries". I can hook up the sled.
But:barnie I got called to work at foodbank today.
Txt y'all later.

We have about 4 in of snow. It is near 0* F, but somewhat sunny. I don't think bungee cord would work well; too stretchy.

you guys are making me jealous.

Got home at sundown. Had to do chores. That was alright but

I didn't get to hookup.
We only got a cpl inches of snow but most of it drifted because its been so windy. Training trail seems to be good enough for sled though.
The snow just settled onto it because it's(the trail)through the 2 foot tall grass.
Good news is, I got nice dry wheat straw

for in the dog houses. The Racers of course got deep bedding as did the 2 old fullas and of course Pipoon.
Actually when her whelping date is close she's gona get a special house, dry, dark and "un-cold", in the pen. I'm taking her collar off too.
I'm gona add spruce & pine shavings to all the dog's houses soon too. It smells so good. I'm also adding spruce bough tips/branchlettes. It's beneficial to the health of my dogs as well as smelling good.

Blue. I didn't intend for you to be jealous, but now that you mention it I can relate. Sorry.
But I can't help but feel excited. Even though I'm getting snow on my roof(white hair) I still love the sound of panting dogs and the squeak of snow under the sled, the smell and feel of the fresh air in my nostrils, throat and lungs and the cold nipping my cheeks and ears.

Okimaw was an exceptional creature. I miss him still.

I didn't think I cursed but apparently the proper name for " female canis familiarius " is a curse because it gets edited.

No you didn't. Just usually people curse when they rant.... I say that word when I'm talking about breeding dogs but I don't say it online or with non dog people because it can be taken the wrong way.

Its gonna snow next week!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss Griz too. To make matters worse, we lost our pet cat last night. And if that wasn't bad, I found out my dogs killed her.
Any way I have already told my teachers that I won't be at school the day we have enough snow, so when we get enough snow, I will be mushing and not a school.

My dogs feel the need to be petted when they stop so they come all the way back to me. They refuse to  line out!!

Um, I really wouldn't. but I will ask my mentor.

This may seem cold and heartless but if you want a good team you gota stop accommodating them. Once they learn they ain't gona be rewarded when they run to you to get loved up every time they stop and maybe even rejected, they will learn to stand ahead.
Put your foot down.
Once you stop, put your hook down, ignore their running back for loving up, walk ahead of where the leader can reach and just stand there till they stop fussing.
If they don't stop fussing turn to them and say "shhhhhhhhhhhhhh" nice and quietly. Once they "shh" very quietly ,without smiling, quietly and slowly(relaxed sounding)say "good dogs". Then turn around and face away from them again. Before they start getting antsy, quietly walk back towards them and gently just lightly touch their heads. Spending time with good sled dogs needs to have lots of discipline. Even to self. Stop making sucky pets of them. Especially leaders. When the job is done is the time for loving-up your dogs.

Many mushers envied me of Okimaw. Not because he was fast or aggressive or always wanting to race, but because he was quiet, smart enough to stay in front but not crazy racing, gentle, easy going, and knew his place, and above all carried himself with composure as a leader.
when a fight would break out he would stand ahead. Although he could handle himself he very very seldom fought. And when he was "backed into a corner" and he would have to fight back he would stop once I stepped in to stop the scrap.
He slept with me in the tent or teepee when the job was done.
