what time do you usually feed your dogs at?
what time do you usually feed your dogs at?

I like feeding my sled-dogs around 7-8PM. Then they are used to that time all year. In the summer I feed them on Monday, Wednesday, Saterday, Monday... I don't feed them everyday. I feed them like wolves eat. If they aint active ando working they will only get fat if fed everyday. Again, like wolves, they get a big meal then rest for a cpl days, then run then eat again and rest aga...
In winter I feed every second day unless I am working them. In that case I feed them smaller meals everyday.
Usually frozen fish. I like Tulibees because they are the perfect size to add or delete:)"1 for evey 30lbs or so"

So Blue, you more into Euro hound type? or the real Alaskan type? I don't know to feel happy or sad for you....getting more dogs. I feel it my duty to warn you it's addictive. Next thing is more sleds, then more rope, then more........, higher quality feed, more vitamins, different decor era/ deworming methods, different collars, harnesses, style is of housing.. By the time you're 40 you may have everything your own way only to find you want to take a different direction.
Actually I can't say for sure what will happen only that I have seen it happen that way often. Good luck my girl. :hugs

Rosie girl.."anxiety alert dog"...wow. Never heard of that. Mind you I guess if a K9 can be taught to signal people when they detect prostate cancer they can also be taught to signal us when they detect anxiety too. Good-on-ya. I could've used that a few years ago. I don't think I'll ever train any K9's for anything but mushing from now on but LMK how your training progresses.

Char...I work for the local garden centre parttime and the landfill/recycling depot part time. Along with everything I do at home my day starts about 5or6AM and I'm lucky if I get to bed before1130PM. Most of the time I don't get to watch an entire episode of my fave NETFLIX show/series. Starting to slow down a bit tho...so maybe this crazy old man can have a little time to relax before mushing season.....although it's very unlikely.

Long story here.... Astoundingly I have some time this evening.
There is a tribe of PreColumbian people that live in Arizona area(Navajo) and some more in the northern areas between the Cree and the Eskimo. Most people use a politically incorrect term calling them Chipawon, an English bastardization of a Cree word"chipweyan"suffixed from tchipwaw meaning it is sharp/pointed. It refers to the pointed hood parkas that they wore. So essentially it means he/she is pointed hood people.
Dene is the word for the tribe to refer to themselves as. It means "human being".
Cree is actually an English batardization of a French word sounding something like cree ay. I think it refers to " in the process of being in/with creation". I call myself Ininu(in nih new). It means "human being".
Also, Eskimo is an English bastardization of an Ininimotan word"askimiw" which translates to earth dweller in English. I am absolutely miffed as to how it got to mean "eater of raw meat" or "cannibal". So.....Inuit. It means "human being". Qimmiq is the word the Inuit use for dog.
So..
..Tsi is Dene for dog. This Tsi were very wolf looking. Coat colours, eyes, long slender legs, deep narrow chests. The only way they were different than wolves was their tail curled like a Qimmiq and occasionally clolored similar to a Qimmiq since they were occasional cross-breedings to them.
Oh ya, I used "were" and "was" is because due to a government implemented plan to erradicate independence of an entire people, a wonderful tough, hardworking, loyal, friendly, deep snow sled-dog is to my knowledge now amongst the many extinct preColumbian dogs of NorthAmerica.
I think my dog Stinky was amongst the last of the breed. He was actually part genetic Manitoba Timber Wolf. Even though he very much looked the part of the original Tsi with the ArcticWolf and TundraWolf infusions his line was diluted with Manitoba Timber Wolf.
I have his grit grandkids here albeit very diluted with Sibe, Qimmiq and a touch of Mal. That's my "Birthday Brood". Hopefully I'll get on here more in the near future and get some pix up to show y'all.

Long stories I love. Yup, getting old. . Yup....love my dogs and mushing....and history.... ....and dog history. LOL.

:love 2 y'all

i have been to the navajo reservation, they are very nice people, an elderly navajo lady came and made us their version of fried bread.

Gee, with all the mention of mushing ,or more rather racing mushing, I am again starting to think of acquiring more racing dogs. Not Alaskans but sprinters like Oreo & Sparticus. I would love to go to some sprint races I see y'all mention about here(this thread).
And yes one reason is to meet my "Back Yard Chickens 'mushing thread' 'daughters' ' " as my wife refers to y'all, but also of course to race....and mingle....and invite mushers to some of our races here in Manitoba.
Of course it goes without saying I love meeting new people, especially mushers.....and poultry/bird people. Beautiful people. Beautiful.
On that note I am a member of the Winnipeg Fancy Pigeon Association. I also attend The Cluck and Quack Club of Manitoba's shows and meetings. I also go to meets with Manitoba Rabbitry Association although I ain't a member ...... .....yet.
Hey, any of you still raising chickens or any other birds.
I made a big boo-boo this spring. I went and bought 90 chicks. 50 Plymouth Rock,(25 Columbian&25 Barred), 10 Rhode Islamd Red and 30 mixed Brahma(Light, Dark& Buff). I added 30 Rouen ducklings, 5 Eastern Wild Turkey poults & 5 adult Blue Slate Turkeys(1 Tom & 2 hens)a Red Golden Pheasant cock (breeding 1 of 2 yr old Buff Orpington hens) and a gander for my goose Rachel. I also got a dzn Old English Tumbler pgns & 18 Racing Homer pigeons.
Iwas gonna get rid of all my chkns, trkys, dux, gEs, pigeons and rabbits so I could concentrate on my mushing buuuuutttttt..... ...maybe this fall I'll have a big sale, save up to travel to the race in Yellowstone, add the Eaglecap and a cpl more in Wisconsin & a cpl in Minnisota( I used to live in StPaul) and there's one in N.D., I can't remember the name of it. Maybe a cpl in Wyoming. I'd love to go to at least one in Idaho and/or Washington. I was through them areas when I was 20. Always said I'd like to go there again.
Dang OCD pushing me to get more birds.
LOL. Gota blame something eh. May as well make a scapegoat of OCD.

If you do end up coming to Yellowstone, and any other races, let us know! I'm planning for Yellowstone (in December), Darby Dog Derby, Race to the Sky, and Flathead Classic. All Montana races. I'd love to be able to get to Eaglecap but that's when my school does semester finals so I don't know that it'll happen. Maybe some other races if the funds are there.

I have ONE hen left. That's It. :( My family's dogs got my prized rooster and the other hens. They were imported Blue Black and Splash Orpingtons and now I only have a splash hen left.

Fried bread is soooo good! I live on a reservation (one of the only in Montana to allow non-native Americans to live here) and when I was in elementary school, the tribes were really involved. We would have 'River Honoring' ceremonies and we'd get to eat fried bread and learn about the native cultures, it was really cool.

Ya, I'd sure love to get out before I get too old and cripple to mush. More so now because I appreciate it more and also because I've never met anyone in person that I met online. And even more so "mushing daughters" as my my wife refers to y'all as
The races you mentioned are all races I've read about on-line. Dang I'd love to go.
Sucks though eh the one you'd really like to go to is during finals. I can't relate because I've never had those kinda things. After my my school days. I'm sure if you really wanted to though you'd be able to work something out with the school isf your folks backed you up. ...and of course if the funds are in place.

"Orpingtons are such a nice breed of chicken. I have 1 Buff hen left. Such a sweet "chicken"ality. Yes, and the colours you had, OMGoodness! gorgeous eh. I hate it when dogs are so kill crazy. I kill them all now. No questions asked, none answered, without favor. Well except for my dogs. And maybe if it's a gorgeous husky type I might "over" on the ownership.
Fried read....yes MMMMMMM! But not too great for staying slim and trim. Not for me anyhow.
River Honoring ceremony. Cool. Never heard of that before. Maybe I should learn it. We sure need it here. Hydro electric generating projects are ruining so many of our lakes and rivers and destroying so many Eco systems. It's really, really sad to see the destruction money can buy. They just throw a few bucks at the local people and essentially buy them off. Destroying miles and miles of caribou, moose, duck,, goose....well essentially every kind of environment imaginable. Sad. Just so humans can sit in their living rooms in their flip-flops and bathing suits when it's -40 outside or sit in their air conditioned "den" sipping margueritas while they watch UFC or "Reality TV". Some one should "Reality TV" what's really going on.
Oooooooo!! Someone musta peed in my cornflakes this morning. Still true tho!!!!
Any way....,

Most of the races are fairly close to me so I'll most likely get to go but EagleCap is a ways a way.

Speaking of kill crazy dogs, my mom got this red/blue heeler who will attack just about any dog we own. He dang near killed my beloved collie/heeler (RIP Badger), he's attacked 4 of my males while they were on their tethers and 2 of them are missing the top halves of their ears now, and just last night he attacked a friend's pit bull mix (who has never hurt a fly) and his eye and face is super swollen now. Oh, and 2 separate times I had a male on a leash walking from the dog yard to the house and both times the heeler attacked them. Completely unprovoked. He is nice to people mostly but can NOT be around other dogs, cats, chickens, etc. Though he has bit me a time or two. Then when I discussed this with my parents they yelled at me saying that he wasn't going anywhere and he'd never learn not to fight. He is like 10-11 years old and we've had him for maybe a year. My mom only got him to breed to my sister's cowdog mutt so she could make more agressive, unresponsive, mutts that are probably gonna end up dead in a ditch (sad to say, but people around here are not very trustworthy). Anyways, this stupid heeler is a danger to dogs and other livestock as well as people and my mother refuses to do anything about it. Okay, rant over, lol.

River Honoring (or sometimes Lake Honoring) was when we got to learn about the habitats and animals and how the river/lake effected the animals. And we learned about the dam (which provides quite a bit of electricity as well as income for the tribes) and how they manage wildlife. Plus we got to play a bunch of really cool Native American games and eat fried bread. It's really fun and all but I'm not sure if many other places do it. The Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d'Oreille tribes are the main tribes here so we learn about their heritage and cultures.

if it were me, when they leave the house one day, i would take him to a pound in another city over from me. if they ask what happened to him i would say he ran away. lol

I have seriously thought about that except he hasn't ever shown the desire to run off (unfortunately for me...) so I don't think they'd believe it. Ugh oh well. It's a big pain in the butt having to lock him up just so the other dogs can be out. But he's kinda old so maybe he'll quit fighting so much, doubtful though.
