One of my Silkies was carried off by a dog last Sunday, and injured pretty badly. Thankfully, I witnessed him grab her, so I was able to chase him down and get my chicken back. A 4x3 inch area beneath her left wing was skinned (approximately), and there were several deep punctures from the dogs teeth. After I cleaned the wound, I sprayed the entire area with Schriener’s, and then bandaged her up and gave her the first dose of Amoxicillin. (She weighs about 2lbs, so I split a 500mg capsule into 4 doses.)
She has been healing beautifully all week! The wound never showed signs of infection (I LOVE Schriener’s!!!), and so my question is this;
Can I safely stop the oral antibiotics now? She received them for a full 7 days, so is that enough for an animal bite? Do I need to do a full 10 days? Thank you!!

Glad to hear that she is much better and recovering. It is up to you whether to complete it for 10 days. Most vets will give amoxicillin for 7-10 days. Since there were puncture wounds, the 10 day course may be best. I also would give some probiotic powder or plain Greek yogurt with live cultures for a few days after the antibiotics to get the intestinal bacteria back to normal.
