An egg within an egg? Double-shelled egg, different colors!

And it was covering most of the egg. I wish I had photographed it before peeling so much of the brown and brown membrane off.

I’m not saying it’s impossible that the brown egg shell somehow got stuck on the greenish, but it would have been incredibly difficult to cover so much of it.

I guess perhaps the hen’s heat could have caused the membrane to adhere to the bluish egg.

I feed my chix organic layer feed—free choice egg shell, 3-grain scratch, plus healthful snackies, like my leftover smoothies and salads.
I understand how eggs get color, but this was both membrane and shell—not just another layer of brown color.
I think 21 hens-incharge is the only logical explanation, but I still can’t figure how so much of the blue-green egg was covered by membrane.
Oh well, I like a little mystery in life!

Still would have taken some serious jostling to end up in the other shell.
Mystery for sure since you indicated it had a lot more of the brown on it.

I have had a lot of my serama chicks do this at hatch even under mama . One shell gets stuck over the other. I have never seen it happen but it always made me think of those birds that kill their siblings so they get all the food. Dont remember what kind they are. LOL Ferocious little dinosaurs !

I have read of such finds. It was determined the brown egg hatched and the green ended up shuffled around getting shoved inside.

That makes me a party pooper. :(
Put me on that category also, looks like that's exactly what happened.
