An interesting occurance at school today - slight rant

I too came from a family where if the teacher told my parents I had misbehaved there was hades to pay at home. If a neighbor saw one of us doing something wrong they would call our parents and we would be in a heap of trouble.

Now if you scold some one else's child they throw a fit at you. I grabbed the hand of a young boy at a playground once as he was set to launch his third rock at another kid's head. His mother took after me like I had ripped his hand off. I explained to her as calmly as I could that he was throwing rocks at toddlers heads and she just kept on screaming at me.

When something went wrong between me and a teacher my parents requested a chat with the teacher. But, by golly I had better have a legitimate issue!

I had a teacher when I was in high school who was a bully, verbally and emotionally abusive and nasty. I got into a yelling match wiht her and got thrown out of class. I told my parents (knee's knocking) and they heard me out. We all had a sit down meeting with the disciplinarian, my parents, the teacher and me. I had (by my parents) to apologize for raising my voice to a teacher. But, my parents supported me in saying that the teacher was also in the wrong. I could apologize and get back into class or I could stand my ground and fail. If I failed the class I would have to pay for summer school and get myself there and back. I stood my ground I failed and my parents held through with their plan. The school did not renew the teacher's contract.....

It was hard but very valuable lesson. I see way too many parents who do not teach their kids to make choices like that. And way too many parents who are so over protective they stifle and retard the child's maturing.

I am very sorry that happened Writer. Anonymous complaints should be treated lightly unless it is specific about a certain child and some form of abuse. I don't know why people do things like that.

Since they made up the parts about speaking and having the media at the meeting, I'd put that down as a crank call. It's unfortunate there are so many jerks in the world. You have to take reports seriously, even when they aren't real, just in case. Just like bomb threats that aren't real. It's always unfortunate that everyone has to waste time and have a big upset, but there's not a lot you can do about it.

We had a brief staff meeting about it this morning so we could make sure everyone is aware that a complaint was made whether it was true or not. I've never heard any of our teachers cuss, although I did have to speak to a parent volunteer in the hallway once, she just doesn't have the filters needed to think before she speaks but she tries. Myself, I'm putting it down to a bored crank caller, but I'll check over my shoulder when I'm in the store or something to see who might be listening to me lol!!
Thanks for the support!

I disagree that anonymous complaints are usually untrue. There are some times when an anonymous complaint is needed to protect a victim. However, in this particular case the anonymous complaint had no specific data--times, places, specific teachers, even the specific words used--and it was acknowledged to be a second or third hand account. Someone is rattling chains and wanting to see people jump. If found, they need to suffer consequences for their fraudulent actions.
