Im a new chicken owner and completely stumped! I have 4 Black Australorps about 20 weeks old, I got them as pullets still knowing the chance of getting a rooster. The chicken on the top right is in question. The tail and hackle feathers are completely different than the other 3, and significantly smaller in comb and waddles sizes. Olivia(

), again shown on the far right of the bottom picture is the heaviest of the 4, the most shy and 100% not dominating. The others push her around, and does not "strut" around. The chicken coming into view on the top right and far left of the bottom pic can be the most aggressive towards me and the other chickens, which is actually another concern

, she is definitely the who who rules the roost!! Any help/opinions from the chicken experts out there?

better closer pic of the one with a large comb and wattles would help a lot but it could be at point of lay

I hope this one helps, she is the most developed and dominating. However her tail feathers look like the others except the one I am curious about, thanks!!

Thats the other sign Ive been waiting for, a new bawking sound in the early morning when they hear me in the garden, but it doesnt sound like a crow. My neighbor just discovered she has a rooster and mine sounds nothing like the crowing he is now doing (her new addition to her flock are the same age as mine, but they are Americanas )

Looks roo-ish but I would think you would be seeing more hackle and saddle feathers by now. As far as crowing though, age can't really tell you. I had a four roos this year. One was crowing at 12 weeks, and one at 25. It all depends.

I would agree though that she is probably just POL.

I just went out to the coop and I got my first egg! I just wish I knew who is was!! The picture of the biggest girl, with the large comb was the only one in the coop when I went out, the rest were in the run. When I removed the egg, she went went back into boxes and pecked around, could that be her looking for the egg?
