I have a anatolian/black lab. They are supposed to be a garding dog for lifestock! But i am not sure if i should exactly trust her with my chickens. Because she is very playful and i think she would not mind if she ate a chicken dinner! What is your apinion on this?
Do you think anatolians are good for garding chickens?
Do you think i should trust her with them?
Do you have a dog that gards your lifestock?
And also i have seen other people have anatolians garding there chickens.

Yes they are a LGD but that doesn't mean you can just throw them out with livestock and expect them to guard them. That requires time, patience, and plenty of training. I trust all of my dogs around my birds but I personally have spent hundreds of hours training them. With proper training I'm sure she will be great around your animals.

Chickens aren't "livestock" and you don't have a Livestock Guardian Dog.

Sorry not trying to be a smarty pants, but they are livestock. They live on a farm or backyard, are used for food, they are alive and are stock. Yes you can use a LGD, but you have to train them. I have a 5 1/2 month pyr and I'm training her to protect my chickens, my other two dogs won't protect like she should, we have had numerous raccon attacks, even though everything is locked up.

Anatolians are LGD's but labs are not. When you mix a guarding breed with a breed that has a different purpose/nature, you may get a great LGD or you may get a great "something else". Even full LGD's aren't always good with poultry since they were originally bred to guard 4-legged livestock - e.g. goats/sheep.

I know of several Great Pyrenees who do their job guarding their flocks diligently. I also know of one who, though both her parents were working dogs, and the pups were raised around poultry, had to be rehomed because she killed chickens as soon as no one was looking (was fine with them as long as someone was outside with her).

I have a lab/border collie cross who is wonderful with my flock. So good that I have her sleep in the chicken run at night to deter would-be predators from coming close. I have an auto door and when it opens in the morning, the flock comes filing out but I never worry that my lab X will hurt them. So just the fact that your dog is mixed with lab does not mean she will be bad with the chickens. However being half lab he or she may be more interested in retrieving than guarding, depending on which of the parents instincts were inherited..
