it is true, Anconas don't go broody often I had only one go broody and that was 2 years ago, but I do have to say she was the best mom ever better than any other breed that I had!!!

Congratulations!!!!!

My ancona pullet is quite strange. She is the most out going, the first to jump into my lap for treats, but she is crazy. IF she gets a treat off the ground she runs off with it clucking loudly, I swear she is saying "na na na na na" to the other chickens. She is the only one that does it, but if she has a treat, everyone knows it.

Oh, my. I have an Aracauna trio and Buckeye chicks....and now I want Anconas. When will it end?!?! I keep telling myself I should wait and get DOminiques from the very nice and serious breeder of Dominiques who lives in my town. Someone please talk me out of my own good counsel.

She is still setting, despite seven puppies romping back and forth on the porch. I can tell when one gets too close, there's a quick scuffle, and little yelp and pup beats a hasty retreat.

Hi There, I have two Anconas. I have had them about a month now. The people I got them from said they didnt have problems with frostbite? Maybe I misheard them because one has alot of her comb missing. They are a bit rough around the edges still, but we're working on it

They havent been handled at all, and were so flighty, they wouldnt even come near enough to get treats with the others, but they are warming up. My kids catch them and cuddle them all the time, they are sweet once you get your hands on them. Now they come right up for them. I wasnt planning on keeping them once my chicks are grown, but they've are grown on me!

I have a post about her on the emergencies/injuries/diseases/cures section, see her eyes? Maybe someone here has seen this before in theirs?

I have a question.

Are Anconas usually smaller that other standards, or do they take longer to grow? Dottie, my ancona pullet, is the smallest and lays the tiniest eggs. One day she laid a normal size egg, when I cracked it open, it was a double yoker lol. (It was the size of a medium egg!) She is bigger than a bantam, but smaller than the rest of the girls, the same age.

Here she is next to my br and a New hampshire red the same age as her (the br is a few months older)

Yeah - can I join the group - I have a 6 day old Ancona I hatched from eBay eggs from Gabbard Farms www.gabbardhatchingeggs.com She/he survived the heat and humidity of the worst summer weather ever to hatch into a beautiful chick. How soon could I tell if she/he is a roo/pullet?

Here are pics.

The egg in the Hovabator

became the sole hatched chick

who moved into the temporary brooder to fluff out

and stayed there a few days

And got some brooder mates and moved into the Big brooder on the 4th day

And today is 6 days old
