Ancona Ducks

The ones I have I was told recently by someone who's been breeding for 30+ years have some pekin in their background, so they're not true ancona, either. I posted some pics on them and the reply I got was "they have too solid a color." So apparently there's a lot of "ancona" out there that just doesn't quite live up to the name.

Disappointing isn't it? I guess some people don't know they don't have pures and they keep passing them on unknowingly.

ckoop7, I have two pair that I got from Celtic Oak Farm last year. They have just started laying. I live just outside of Fort Smith. Once they get established I would be happy to either sell you eggs or hatch some ducklings for you. I have one black and one blue duck, and one chocolate and one tri-color drake. Not sure on the tri-color as to what you would call him because he has brown and light blue feathering but the brown is not as dark as chocolate. They should hatch a nice varied flock. My black duck is the only one that is too heavily colored, but she isn't what you would describe as magpie just has too much solid on her back. I'm keeping her to add some depth to the color of the others. Let me know if you are interested. I'll try to get some pictures to post (I would like everyone's opinion of them.) this weekend if the weather is good.

Sounds good, i keep an eye out on here for pics :)

The lady I'm getting them from is black earth farms, crystal. I know she's a member on here. Has anyone had experience or gotten from her? She's extremely nice and her flock looks great to me.

Well they aren't mine, I am getting some pure breed anconas that I know for sure are good quality but I was wanting to add another line in with them so they wouldn't all be related and this lady lives close to me, I was pretty sure they didn't look pure ancona but I wanted to double check with everyone on here first, so much for convenience

thanks so much. There just no one around me that has them and I am getting 15 ducklings in about a month and I was hoping that I could get a few more from someone else. Ohh well.
I would pass on them.

I'm in oklahoma. I thought about maybe just having some hatching eggs shipped to me cause I haven't found anyone near me yet.

I highly recommend Worth It Farms. She has an ad in the Buy-Sell-Trade section. I bought hatching eggs from her 3 (?) years ago. I got a wide range of colors, most were nicely marked, and they were a good size - much larger than a couple other Anconas I got locally. I didn't have any problem selling the ones I decided not to keep.

The person I'm getting mine from got hers from worth it farms 2 years ago. But since I don't want to breed brothers to sisters if I can avoid it I wanted to get them from two sources.
