Ancona Ducks

P.S. @Subhanala, backyard chickens is one of my few activities where dinosaurs and frozen isn't mentioned every other second! Lol! My son tells me the names, what period the dinosaurs lived in, if tey were herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. Then he proceeds to tell me what that all means (because clearly I don't know) then tells me what dinosaur I can be and what I have to do. Lol! Yesterday I was an oviraptor :) he is going to flip when I show him Ducky and Little Foot! He's four.

i seem to have the worst luck with exploding eggs the first hatch i had i was viewing an egg when it exploded on me and this time. last night around 3 i smelled a horrible smell in my room and tracked it to the incubator and found out it was coming from one of the egg's i didn't see any movement so i put it in a baggie to crack it open and as soon as i turned around bam-o rotten egg got all over the counter. But it looks like the duckling piped on the wrong end through a vein the chick had to have done this a few days ago to have the smell that bad.

But for the good news the other 5 egg's have all piped but the first wrong end pip seems to have gotten shrink wrapped so i will give it another day if it's still not out by tomorrow morning then i will intervene. some weird has happened with the egg's though all the egg's have external pip's sense yesterday but none other then the wrong end pip have tried to zip yet.

I wish i could show you all pics but i found out last night that my camera ran out of juice and that i was out of AAA battery's long after all the local stores closed. so my dad is out buying me some as we speak.

Keeping my fingers crossed the rest of your eggs all have healthy ducklings in them. Sorry about the exploding egg.

What color are my anconas? The smaller one was mostly white down with yellow and gray/brown down, the bigger one was just yellow and the gray/brown color.
Seeing all these dark ducklings is making me kind of sad I didn't get a black one!
I'll try to get updated pictures tomorrow!
They were one day old in this picture.

This is Ducky, he's bigger/older. The smaller one was a preemie and has a crooked foot (it faces inward more than it should, but he seems to get along well, gonna keep an eye on it) named "Little Foot"., incubation issues, lost the rest of the clutch, the black/silver ones, bummer.

So I showed my son the pictures. He was super excited to see Little Foot and Duckie, then said "hey, are ducks can be that! We can name them Duckie and Little Foot!" I told him are ducks already have names :)

Hahaha. Don't tell your son this, but maybe you have some new baby ducks in your future ;) :thumbsup

Well maybe in five years when we can hopefully move and buy a house with more land, but by then he would probably want different names! Haha

i have news at 9;37pm i saw this then i saw this not 3 mintues later i'll be looking for name suggestions if anyone has some good ones
Yay! That's great Winteree!!!!!! All the names I had were vetoed by my son so all are ducks have names from Frozen (Ana, Elsa and Kristof). I agree the gender neutral or if you know how to sex them wait until you can do that. Ares were sexed and are all girls, or atleast that's what we're told, so we have a girl named Kristof! I wanted to name them Thelma, Louise and Jemima Puddle duck, but a week before we got them my son suddenly told me no and informed me what we would be naming them.
