Ancona Ducks

Pics
I was just thrown in this direction by Sally Sunshine!

I love Anconas! We hatched five last spring but we had a run in with something about two months ago and we are down to one lone duck and her friend Goldie the Goose (who I think may be a boy). Anywho, I just set 16 shipped

eggs in the bator and I had one egg that was blue/green. I had no idea they laid colored eggs! If anyone has advice for me I will take it. This is only my fourth time incubating (second for ducks) and my hatch rates are not as high as I would like but from feedback seem to be expected since they have always been shipped eggs.

My lone duck (Blackie, do you sense a theme?) has not laid any eggs for quite some time. Do they tend to take the fall and winter off? They were laying at one point but then stopped (or found a really good hiding spot) and then e were finding them in the shallows of our 1 acre pond. I would like to have her mother these ducklings we hatch in March but I am not sure if I will be able to if she is not setting any eggs. Will her motherly instincts kick in if she sees them? Thanks for the help!

it isnt a covered run just a 4' fence around.... they dont fly inside though?????? not sure on the breeds flying capabilitites, I know they dont migrate but that dont mean they cant fly right?
Ooh ooh ooh I know this one!

They do not fly.

And thanks again for a push in the right direction! You're a doll!

I have never seen mine fly. They will run flapping their wings but have never been air born!

I was wondering if anyone has ever had issues with wild ducks interacting with their domestic ducks. We occasionally have visitors and the drakes (RIP) would chase them off (or at least to the other side of the pond). Today I noticed my goose and duck chillin' with a mallard couple. Do I need to worry about diseases being transmitted to my guys?

This is weird you just asked that! Marty just wrote an article!!! https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/just-the-facts-avain-influenza

I guess you might want to be careful but my ducks haven't ever gotten influenza from wild birds, that's probably because my big bad dog will eat up such wild birds, but he refuses to touch my poultry and water fowl!
