Ancona Ducks

Pics
I guess you might want to be careful but my ducks haven't ever gotten influenza from wild birds, that's probably because my big bad dog will eat up such wild birds, but he refuses to touch my poultry and water fowl!

Waterfowl are pretty hardy - the danger is in them passing diseases to the chickens and other fowl. Your ducks could seem perfectly healthy, but be harboring diseases that they've caught from wild birds that will make the chickens sick. That's one of the reasons why I love ducks and geese so much - in my experience they very rarely get sick.

WE HAVE BABIES!

Sorry about the red glow; it's our heat lamp. v__v;

The red light and my cell camera sort of washed them out but they are really speckly, including on the beaks and feet! We're excited! Unfortunately, the other 5 eggs did not make it to hatch day. I will wait a few days and try and take some better pics outside the brooder, I'm trying to leave them alone and let them get settled as they are fresh out the incubator.

I have NEVER smelled anything quite as foul as a freshly vacated incubator.

You'd think they hatched from sewage.

Yeah, I am actually surprised at how much spotting they have, I was worried because the pics of the parents didn't have a lot of foot/bill spotting but these guys seem to have quite a bit, including spots under the eye? I will take better pictures tommorow, maybe.
