Hi all!

I’m pretty new to Anconas but they are fast becoming one of my favourite breeds. I got 4 pullets and one cockerel from my last batch (yay), and they are now 8 weeks old. I noticed some have yellow shanks mottled with black and some have mottled white/pinkish ones. I heard the yellow was normal, is pink a serious fault? I have attached a picture.

I’m looking to have a small breeding flock - not exhibition breeding or anything fancy, but I do want reasonably good quality birds. Would breeding the lighter shanked ones be a problem?

Thanks in advance!

The light coloured legs probably only carry 1 copy for yellow skin. So mated to a yellow legged rooster will give you 50% yellow legs. If she doesnt carry any copies for yellow skin then all the babies crossed to a yellow leg rooster will be white legged birds carrying 1 copy for yellow skin.

If you like her use her and keep all the yellow legged babies! If its a boy Id shy away from using him unless hes the best you have 🤟
