lol..I was looking at it the wrong way... Being that the three of them are standing so close together... And the effected wing is on the far side of the body... Destinduck thank you... I can now see it more clearly after having a better look.
hummmm..... destinduck: I was thinkin, maybe you could go shopping for me and get all that confusing stuff, then make me out a schedule. Oh, and of course I'll even give you the money
lol ~just kidding... It only seems confusing, cuz all this is still new to me. Like candling, I had many questions but once I did it and finally had me a fertile egg then everything was exactly as explained(the veins, movement ect...) I'm writing it down, then I know what to tell the guy at the feed store what I need. He's also pretty good at knowing. *You know what's Real confusing is when everybody has a different opinion or answer. I'm like, oh great now which should I do. ~ lol I will google that a little later. Thank you a bunch for your time & info. ~ And Thank you, duckyfromoz & The Duck ABC'S for your help & fast response. ~Julie
Here are some new pics.. Not the greatest but I hope they help.. Ive got him wrapped and in a small cage in the house right now. I want to make sure he can walk around and be ok before I put him back with his brothers.
These guys were raised in a 100 gallon water trough in the house. There was only the 3 of them, so plenty of room. I feed them chick starter, non medicated. It is 18%. I give them chopped lettuce and grass that I pull from the yard. The pen there in now is like a large raised breeder pen with plenty of room.
And, since it was mentioned, I did at one time think that his wing was injured, but cannot recall a time that it could have happened. The part of the wing in questions does just flop.
Should I pull a couple of the flight feathers and then wrap? or just wrap??
Alicia just wrap, Take your time get someone to help. Dont rush. spread the good wing out and look at it then look how it lays next to the body. Then streach out the bad wing see how it looks and gos back. This will give you a idea how you should wrap it and understand the anatomy of the wing. Besides vet wrap use duct tape if you have to. Make your wraps firm and tight.(like you mean it cause you do) Its kinda like a DR setting a broke bone think of it that way.Dont worry and take your time.I dont know the age of your bird but by the pics this looks like the time to do this procedure is running out. I know you can do it and do it right.
also I m sorry to say but I dont know the color (seems like there is a new color every year. But you could ask who ya bought them from what they are otherwise its a mutt (but a cute one) Good luck keep us updated. PS Its not a injury100% angelwing . cut back on protien 14-16 chicken layer pellets and exercise on this duck and in the future BEFORE feathered cut back on em and exercise helps (big pen or outside playtime)
Just wrap it. I would not pull feathers, since I think it does hurt. Ok maybe a fast hurt, but I don't like to hurt my ducks. I feel they will get afraid of you, if you hurt them. You will be fine with just wrapping. It's like a sling that supports the wing. Make sure to remove the wrap at night, so the duck can spread or flap its wings at night and get the blood circulation going. You will see a big difference in only 4 days.
