Angel Wing?

Does this look like Angel Wing to you?

I can't tell if these pins are growing out wierd, or if he's holding his wings causing them to do that.....

If it is angel wing, what is recommended treatment? I've read about taping it, or just cutting back protein. Which will work?

looks like angel wing, but it is too late to cut the protein......you can tape it with duct tape and it should correct it.

Don't use duct tape. Use 3M Vet Wrap. Its self adhesive and will not stick to their feathers. Start with keeping it taped up for a couple days. Take off and see if it took. I've done 3 birds including a gosling now and its worked every time.

I feel rotten. I think I left him on the chick starter too long. It's all my fault.....

I will wrap him with vet wrap. Vet wrap is like my cure-all and I have it in many rolls in all kinds of great colors.

I use it on my parrot perches, my dog when she injured her leg, I even used it on myself once. lol. And now, Q gets to use it too.....

Poor Q. Luckily he's a pretty easy going little guy (or girl, as some have suggested!) so wrapping him should be less than stressful on him. And he'll be extremely fashionable in a new color every other day or so.

The protein causes angel wing theory is just that...a theory. Many of us do not blame protein, but high levels of carbohydrates from corn and soy along with a lack of fresh greens. There also appears to be a genetic component.

Vet wrap your duck and get some fresh greens in to the diet ASAP regardless of what type of feed you use.

I agree with Wifezilla....I think the too much protein is just a theory. I raise lots of ducks and have only had a few with this problem. I've read that it is genetic. The vet tape works. Do give some greens too.

Q is all taped up and looking fashionable. He's such a good duck, only figited a little, and picked at it curiously but hasn't tried to remove it. We'll see how long that lasts. lol

Q does get to forage outside every day, eats lots of yard greens, (dandelion leaves, etc) but we also give him greens inside....collards, endive, turnip leaves, escarole....whatever we have on hand for our lizards. Guess I'll up the amount of greens we give him daily starting now.

Do green veggies count? He loves fresh green beans and I can throw in some peas too....
