Angel wing?

What are you feeding them? I've read a lot of different theories on what causes angel wing, including high levels of protein in feed. I still don't know much about it, but I had my ducks on starter probably much longer than they needed. Two of them developed angel wing. As awful as it sounds, I let it go without wrapping since its just a cosmetic issue. For a couple weeks, it gradually got worse. I then switched the ducks over to a grower/finisher (lower protein %) rather than starter and within days both ducks look 100% normal again..no angel wing. Not sure how that's even possible but it's true. I could have just gotten lucky, I suppose. Just a thought.

I'm just not sure on the protein ShayBaby, not that it couldn't happen in some ducklings but I have fed Purina Flock raiser for 9 years to hatchlings on up and have never had a case of angel wing, but maybe there is also a difference in brooder raised ducklings compared to ducklings raised by mamas I don't know but FR has 22% protein in it. Glad your lil guys turned around after changing feed.

It's a highly debated one that's for sure, i admit i raise all ducklings here on 18% from the start vs 20% (or more ) found with some feeds, i have found it to work fine and now i have even done so with bantams and medium weight breeds.

The one thing i have noticed in my constant struggle to get my feed down right, is the well at least for the here the duck and goose growers are designed to simply fatten the bird up as quick as possible and toss it to market which is fine if your raising ducks for meat but for those of us who are not that is an issue, that rapid push for growth is not good and may be a contributor to AW.

I am finding better feed ratios in chicken varieties because you can purchase feeds intended for birds you are keeping vs just for market.

Genetics also cannot be ruled out, as people have said they have seen it in wild ducks and clearly there not usually fed commercial diets.

I too thought/think it's the feed. It has 22% protein in it. Put him on something lower just in case. The little dude will not keep anything on :( The knee high slid down. He was looking good, but now it's right back where it was. I'm gonna make him his own pen this week and will be trying again. He doesn't like to be away from my chicken hens though lol. He's been with them since about a month old and I swear he thinks Lola is his mama :) I'm thinking I'm gonna have to get him a playmate so he isn't so sad when I move him. I assume a girl would be better than a boy? Will post a pic of him in his "nylon body cast" soon lol

They are Houdini's for sure. maybe knee high with vet wrap ? lol sounds like some kind of weird sandwich. If you know for sure a boy then either sex will work, boy as long as you don't intend to add a girl later. girl if you see ducklings in your future.
