Angry Neighbor with a Gun (fence question)

I've owned pet birds for years before I got chickens, so I definitely suggest wing clipping. It's easy and painless. Just remember to do it again after they molt, because the feather grow back.

Wing clipping would be the cheapest and easiest solution.

I'm all for wing clipping. It's easy and it supposedly keeps them in. Maybe they will be less able to escape predators that could get in, but I consider a neighbor with a gun a predator too. My area is crawling with coyotes, foxes, rattlesnakes and the occasional mountain lion which most recently killed a flock of emus and a mini horse about a mile from me. However, I consider my dogs and my neighbor's underfed dogs as more of a threat. My chickens are locked up tight in their coop every night, so I'm not as worried about the night time predators as much. I guess you have to decide which is the lesser of two evils and that the only way to be 100% cautious is to put netting over an enclosed run.

We have A 6 foot fence up and My RIR's still try to fly over it. the only thing that stops them is we covered the top of their run with chicken wire to since we have so many hawks, keeps the hawks out and the chickens in.I close the chicken house up at night too, but their roosts are about 5 foot high. I'm glad I don't have a neighbor like that, We have guns in our house and I know how to use them but I would never think to threaten a neighbor,If I was you would try to avoid this one at almost any cost. The idea of slanting wire into your side of the fence is great I think.

GREAT IDEA! Maybe you could all make nice....

I haven't read anything about this neighbor other than he got upset over chickens.
Why is this? Does he hate chickens? Is he one of those "It's my property" guys?
What's the deal??? We have neighbors who we have had problems (not chickens)
with so I know if my chickens crossed the border they would be jerks just because
they can.

Saw title "Angry Neighbor With Gun" had to make sure you weren't my neighbor -- but I'd be ok if it was just your chickens flying over -- Unless - I had just planted flowers

I am really troubled by the vehemous with which
he addressed the issue. Is there any way to talk
with him to determine the underlying issues?

Maybe the last chicken lovers abused his property.
Or he may have fear issues.
Or is a danger to your family and you should talk to the sherriffs dept.
