I asked her if she was a vegetarian, and she said "she only ate meat if it didn't look like an animal, nothing that looked like a leg or anything." What??? OMG, do people really not understand that hamburger was once an animal, too? LOL!!! Too funny. She really thought that made it all right.

You could have been talking to my hubby, except for the gender part. Everything has to be boneless so he is under the impression it was never a critter, or at least can continue to live in his delusions. He never wants to know where it came from, grown here or what part of the critter, and there are still many critters off limits totally. If he finds out something he did not want to know it 'ruins his appitite', well he could stand to loose about 50 lbs so I have a bit of fun with that.....

I just don't get it. A very intelligent human being hiding from reality so they don't have think of them self as an omnivore.​

While waiting in a Dr's office a long while back, I read an article in a Reader's digest magazine stating that people have their priorities mixed up regarding animals (my words--not the magazines)

It basically said that people are caring waaaay too much for the health,and well being of their 'pets' while becoming so detached to animals from the meat industry. People will spend 1000's of dollars for their pets to make them comfy, healthy, live longer than necessary,are so concerned about the rights of their pets etc... but meanwhile forgetting all about the conditions in which the animals we eat--live in. ie, the poor conditions of factory farming everything, etc...

While I don't discourage the ownership of pets-- I am more concerned about the humane treatment of meat animals, and I think more people need to be aware of how these animals are treated and raised.

this is my reason for having my animals--exactly to give them a good life for providing nourishment for my life.

It was a great article in the RD--i wsh I could find it again and reread it.

All people need to be concerned where their meat comes from. And this means to look beyond the grocery store.

For some folks these are very serious issues. Similar to guns, abortion, etc. I try to respect opinions...but dont try to push it on me.

My step sister is a vegetarian. She keeps to herself about it, feeds her kids meat, and says they can make their own decision when older. I can live with that.

What part of BC are you in april? I know a number of small dairies like us in BC. Dexters can be good, but be cautious about their lineage. Lots of "registered" problematic lines out there.

I think they have a genetic marker test now you can get for Dexters which identifies the bulldog gene.

They do have it and most people are unaware the problem even exists. Thus the warning. Not to mention two distinct body types you find in dexters. The longer legged dexter does not make for a good milker.

had to add my story about a conversation with a pseudo-vegetarian... she was a vegetarian who would only eat fish and chicken because she could "feel the fear of the cow as he was getting ready to die". I had to ask if she had ever seen a fish fight for his life at the end of a fishing pole! Also mentioned seeing a chicken play the piano when I was a child. Pretty smart for something that she ate.
