Animal Cruelty?

I am on another duck group and it was posted that the poor ducks are stepped on by the drunken men, some have heart attacks, a lot of them are permanently injured or die from the race..

I think it's cruel and the same as fighting chickens.
and should be banned..

I dont let my kids chase my ducks, they run because they are scared, I dont like rodeos, dog racing, horse racing or circus's with animals in them, I dont like humans profiting from an animals suffering in any way, most dogs, horses and in this case Ducks that dont win dont get to live either.Grrr it make me so mad that people dont recognise that animals have feeling too

to watch it.... I am a total wimp, Id prbly have a nitemare, but i did read your posts. Sounds like stupid ppl...

Wow if this is animal crulty then what is it when you have thousands of people here on BYC posting in predators and pests that talk about and show pics of the bobcats, raccoons, oppossums, foxes, cats, dogs that they have shot trapped and killed?
just my thoughts

how about you fisherman who use live bait such as worms or minows.
Or how about that chicken or turkey you ate or that Cow lets talk about all the abuse they went through before it made it to your belly

If it bothers you that much, don't go in there. We gotta eat sometime and most of the time it is not cruel to eat animals or we kill our own animals in the most humane manner as possible.

You would be singing a different tune if those predators, like the possums, coons, foxes and dogs killed your chickens and they will keep coming back until you have no more. I was like you when I was younger but after suffering heavy losses, my thoughts changed and I do not feel any remorse in my actions in killing them. I protect what is mine unless it is a protected species. A .22 in the head or heart is not cruel. Its quick and painless. I won't relocate them either. If they had babies, it is case by case decisions.

Oh yeah if you think too much on the effects prior to death, they fight back to protect themselves while we fight back to protect what's ours. After you lose alot of your birds, then you can tell me what your thoughts are and what you are going to do about it.

Didnt watch the whole thing...But I got the drift- seeing one race was enough for me. Strange how people can gather once a year as an excuse to have a weekend of fun.. Drinking..and time with friends- and yet they dont think about the ducks. Im sure some of these ducks are very well cared for through the year the keep them in " prime condition" just for the races. But then all that is undone in just a few moments.

I had a guy contact me wanting to buy some ducks for herding. I said no- but a while later I spent some time with a friend who also raises Runners for herding. I was amazed to see how calm her ducks were- and they they almost looked like they were enjoying it!! Some people can use animals in sports and still be respectful to their needs and welfare- maybe if there was less alcohol over that weekend at Avoca each year- the races might not seem so fun to those attending.

Oh come on
dont tell me its different.......its not

Yes its different, chasing or killing with single shot. I am not sure this is cruelty, but I didn't understand why they couldn't fly better, heck the ones i had could clear that fence. They were not some fat pekin
