When we were cleaning up after Thanksgiving this past year, we set the platter that the turkey was on, down on the floor for Moxie to lick it. (Which she did very thoroughly and with much enthusiasm!
) My SIL thought it was gross. Of course, we had to joke around that Moxie did such a good job that the platter could go right back in the cupboard...
Of course it was later washed properly in the sink with soap and hot water. We asked her why she didn't have a problem with there being a dead bird on the platter previously? Why, she even ate food from it while the carcass was still on there. She had to admit, that by that logic, the dog licks weren't really something to be concerned about.
I don't have a problem at all with dog spit. I will happily share a popsicle with her, trading licks. ( No worries, we eat fruit only popsicles, no added sugar.) Dogs have fewer mouth germs than people. What germs are there, I figure helps keep my immune system caught up to speed.
On the other hand, I use hand sanitizer frequently at work. I don't know where any of those people have been!
