I miss those days.

OMG, I remember palying with mercury too. We were always so pleased when our thermometer broke....

I could not survive a day at my house if I were a germaphobe. I wash my hands alot but only because they are in chicken, duck, goose or turkey poop at least once a day.

Yup, did all those things too. "God made dirt, dirt don't hurt" can't remember how many times I heard that.

I do that Now! I kiss every fish before i throw it back for luck - My dad yelled at me when I caught a 10 lb bass, kissed it, and let it go! I have a picture though, lol. Ive eated crickets and grasshoppers on dares, as well as get mud all over me everyday from doing duck chores

But my friends always get freaked when they see MUD on me because they think it is duck poo.

I had a roomate in college who bought a plate new at Walmart and put it in the dish cabinet in our apartment. My boyfriend (who is now my husband) came over for dinner one night and used her plate. She refused to eat off it ever again and starting keeping her dishes seperate than anyone elses. She left it behind at the end of the semester and we still have it. It's my husband's favorite plate just because of that story. She was a nutcase.

My mom never threw any dishes away, but she would roll her eyes and give you the disapproving glare if you fed the cats out of one of the "good" dishes....I think we got in less trouble for breaking them!!!! My sister who is more of a germaphobe than I am would be the one arguing with mom about how we were gonna WASH them anyway and the soap is supposed to kill the germs!

I borrowed her turkey roaster after Christmas, but don't tell her that both the dog and the chickens had a round with it --- THEN I stored it on the back porch for a while (she has yet to pick it up...it's along time till next Thanksgiving)

We regularly feed our dirty dishes to the dogs for "prewashing"

How are animal mouth germs any worse than raw meat germs???? (or any other nasty that might commonly be in the kitchen) In fact, I'd venture that my dog's mouth is cleaner than your average commercially prepared cut of meat!

I mean seriously I eat "nasty" stuff all the time. People at work call me a scavenger. That's why I have a stomach of steel and rarely get sick!!!

I'm not a germophobe, but I do think its gross to let my dog lick our plates. I let my cat lick my cereal bowl, but if my dog started doing that I'd have a problem with it! Other than that, I like to play in the mud!

What a double standard!! LOL

Actually, I do believe I read that cat's mouths have more "dangerous" kinds of germs than dog's mouths do.....pasteurella for instance.

The only issue I see is that, often, dogs forget their manners when they've become accustomed to getting the plates we eat from. I've gone to great pains to be sure the dogs don't beg during meal time, or sneak food off an unattended plate. I'll scrape a plate into the dog's bowl, after a meal, and mix w/dogfood, but I sure don't appreciate being drooled at while I'm eating!
As for the germs - I'm assuming most people use some kind of dish soap and hot water to clean dishes, whether a dog/cat has licked it or not, yes?
