I'm just tickled pink. My girl Annie has started laying again (two eggs in two days now), and she is over 9 years old. After all of the girls stopped laying for the winter, I didn't think I'd see any more eggs from her, but she just never ceases to amaze me!

The oldest hen i've owned was a 10 year old RIR hen, she died 5 years ago. She was not laying, she stopped at 8. Does your hen have something wrong with her foot? It looks lumpy and bigger than the other one.

That's great! My oldest girl is 3. She stopped laying about a year ago. This gives me hope. She may just be having a year out!!

I could be wrong, but I do feel like they go through phases of being more and less productive. When my older girls were about 5, they started to slow down. We added two pullets to the flock, and when those two began to lay, everyone started laying at the younger girls' pace again. Then the older girls slowed down last spring, but in May we took in a rescue who was laying, and my then-8 year old EE started laying again! Competitive drive perhaps???
